Space in the safe is prime real estate so if I have a gun that also has the box, even if it is NIB, the handgun has a slot and the box is located elsewhere.

Me? I love love love gun boxes. And gun boxes aren’t as cool, valuable, useful and fun and enjoyable as handguns are HOWEVER, they are definitely more rare.

Some people (ME) are fussy about the boxes...I'll pay more for a gun with the papers and box....

Yep, me too. I was SO happy that the WVPSC 4566TSW came with everything. Paperwork, orange safety plug, even the fired case in the little envelope.

Some people, like myself and daka, it makes a difference.

Others, it doesn't

To each his own.

I have a blue plastic box with the blue early fragile latches but the label still on the box has a Spec Order Code of 0347 that dates it to December 2000.The box is from a Model 66.

So I had more time to inspect our inventory at the show today. The big 44 mag revolvers come in blue plastic cases. The M&P semis, & J frame revolvers come in cardboard boxes. All guns just arrived from S&W, & brand new. GARY.

I should have been clear with my question.

I was wondering when S&W went from the cardboard box to the blue plastic box. There is also a few different plastic boxes one with gray latches and one with built in blue latches plus a modern blue that I do not have a photo of right now.
I would like to know what years they were used please. Thanks for any response.

I have uploaded a photo of 3 boxes and would like to know the years S&W used these three boxes.
All boxes are from S&W Autos.
The cardboard box is from a 645 that is from 1988.
The blue box with blue latches is from 1996 and it is a CS45.
The box with gray latches is from a 410S made in 2005.
If the experts can give a time line of the usage it would be great. I think I now know the blue box with blue latches started in 1995.
Thanks again for any info on the years S&W used each box.

Both of my sigmas came in plastic boxes, both SDs came in cardboard. Roughly 20 years apart.

Are you really able to buy directly from Smith & Wesson, or do you mean just arrived from a distributor?
#2. I was basically saying the guns were factory fresh, not inventory that had been sitting on our shelves for ten years. But my boss hates it when I text from the show, so I had to make it as few words as possible. GARY.
