Question about Farrant or Hurst Grips

I recently purchased a set of grips that appear to be either Farrant or John Hurst. They were described as fitting a J frame RB, however they are too large for my J frames and too small for a K frame. I was wondering if anyone could identify what they fit just from looking at the internal shape and retaining pin location. I'm thinking they might be for a small Colt. I was thinking about modifying them to fit a J frame, but then got to thinking that they may be too valuable to modify. Can anyone give me any guidance here? Much appreciated! Thanks!

No idea as to maker but those fit a Charter Arms revolver.

Thanks. I would not have guessed Charter Arms.
I have eight Smith revolvers, but no Charter Arms. Will have to decide whether to alter or sell them. They are very nice, and look like Farrant, so I don't want to destroy any collectible value they might have. Hmmmm...?

In my opinion, these do not appear to be made by Farrant or Hurst. Some similarities but I personally wouldn't lose sleep over altering or selling those. I'm no expert, but have owned a handful of stocks made by each of those makers for what it's worth.

I enlarged the picture to match my original type Charter Bulldog .44 and after removing the grips see the shape is very close on the inside of the grips but not perfect. Also, the frame of my gun is squared off where the grips are rounded where they fit inside the grip frame. But maybe other Charters are different. The anchor pin position looks about right, though.

Got to agree with Hoosier here. Still a nice set of stocks! Nothing wrong with mystery stocks, I have a few pairs myself.

Thanks all... sort of like a mystery wrapped in an enigma!
I think I'll alter them for one of my J frames. Bought a nice 60-9 recently, and would go well with that one. I'm pretty good with wood, so not worried about screwing them up. Just didn't want to mess with them if they had special value. Appreciate all the advice. May post a pic when they are done!

It's your decision, of course, but I think I would hold off until I could find out what they are really for. They looked a little like [some] Colt D frame to me, but maybe the bottom holes aren't quite enough to the rear.

I also think Charter Arms is likely.

I think the checkering may not be original to the grips.

The manner of the finger grooves suggest Mustang Grips. Late Mustangs are relieved on the left side but this catalog picture shows early ones with left and right the same.

I would have to agree - I own about 10 sets of Farrant's and one set of Hurst. These are neither....
