Question about M.4566 TSW DAO

Glad to help!
I find them very interesting, myself. :)...

Good to know. Short of something looking very wrong, I guess I'll be buying it!

For the sake of accuracy...it comes with a total of 4 mags, not 4 *extra* mags. But, I take your point, and it definitely does make the deal more appealing.

Thanks again!

So what happened with the "DAO" 4566TSW?

John?

I met the seller on Tuesday, as planned. We spoke at some length, and I gave it a decent inspection. Field stripped it, everything looked fine. The hammer does reset with just a very small (1/4 in.?) movement of the slide, and then upon trigger reset, the hammer can be tripped again.

The dings in the surface of the slide, from having been dropped, were considerably less significant that they appeared in the flash photography...as I suspected might be the case. The magazine safety still functions (not that I've ever been a huge fan of mag safeties, but I find some relief in it's being intact, as it having been removed would, to my mind, be more indicative of some sort of "bubba"-esque type of home gunsmithing!), and everything seemed to operate as it should. So...I bought it.

I also picked up the 442, for anyone who's interested.

I didn't post right away, because I figured it would be more meaningful if I had shot it before posting. But, given the current situation...who knows when that might be?

Thanks very, *very* much to all who posted here, with answers and advice for me. I really appreciate the kind assistance. When I do finally get around to going shooting again, I will definitely post the results here. Hopefully, I'll also be able to finally put some rounds through the "new to me" 4506-1 and 469 that I've had for a while now, and report on them, as well!

That is correct and proper TSW DAO operation.

BTW, the "plugs" in the slide replacing the manual safety assembly is a single "plug" called the "firing pin retainer" by S&W.

Sounds like you bought a nice "Commander" style S&W 45!

I you ever get the urge to make the conversion to 4566/86TSW, let me know, and I can help you find the 4 parts you'll need.

Sounds cool, thank you! At the very least...I'll want to shoot it "as-is", and depending on how that works out, will probably help to determine if I'll make any changes.

I forgot to add...while looking at the 4566, I noticed the dot on the front sight seemed as if it might contain a tritium vial. I asked the seller, he said no. I kept looking at them, but it was quite bright out, and I couldn't observe any "glow" at all. I also figured even if they were night sights, they'd likely be "burned out". Also...they were not marked at all with the usual markings you see on night sights.

Anyway...I bought them, and went home. That evening, I was looking at the 4566 again, and I thought I noticed something. Cupped my hand around the front sight, and peered at it...it was glowing away...! Took it into a darkened room, along with the Glock that had been at my side. The front site on the 4566 was glowing more brightly than the sights on my Glock! It appears that the rear sights are "normal", only the front is tritium, which I realize is not unusual. So, a slight bonus. I was just surprised that the seller, who said this was his girlfriend's nightstand gun...had never noticed the front sight glowing on the nightstand.

I don't see where 4566TSW had an option for night sights in the parts catalog. They were usually a different height than the standard sight & needed to be paired with a rear night sight to be regulated properly.

Since it doesn't have any markings maybe someone modified a standard one & it'll be the regulated properly.

Add some pictures if you can.

Congrats on your find.
