Question for active LEO's

My DL, ccp, and Homeland security ID are all together, Both hands on the wheel with my docs in the left hand, window down. Border Patrol, DPS, any LEO all good, never asked to see the firearm. That works for me.

I like to be notified. Finding a gun on a person I didn't know about tends to get the blood flowing. The reaction you'll get from officers by notifying them will vary. I personally have never removed a pistol from a CCW'er on a traffic stop. I am of the opinion that the less a firearms is handled the better. Other officers may want to secure the firearm for the remainder of the stop.

In the end, like in many situation in LE, it boils down to the totality of the circumstances. If you're Joe Citizen stopped for a simple traffic/equipment violation then I'd leave it be. If I'm stopping you for something more or perhaps investigating a suspicious vehicle, etc I'm going to secure it.

I deleted a number of replies to this thread and locked it. Obviously, this is a contentious issue. In the future, both side of the isle need to keep their replies calm, reasoned and respond in a civil manner.

If you see a post that you feel is inappropriate, report it. Crude language and insults will not be tolerated.
