Ok, so I have a CCW permit in my home state of GA and have for many years. I know that most of the surrounding states that I travel through will recognize my GA state permit while traveling through them. I'm planning a 3 week trip to Texas next month, so could anyone that knows the Texas CCW permit restrictions tell me, first, if my GA permit will be recognized, and second, if it is, what are the general guidelines that I need to know that may be different from my own home state? If possible I do plan to exercise my carry rights while in TX but I don't want to run afoul of the law just because I wasn't aware of something that is commonly understood by local residents. TIA

As a Tx CHL instructor, I can tell you YES, you Can.

You can Carry as long as it is concealed. You have yor permit, and identification with you.

You must display your ID and permit when a police officer or magistrate requests same. Only the ID is required if you are not armed, but if you are armed, you must show both.

Look for the signs that say 30.06 the sign must be at each entrance, in both English and Spanish. Do not proceed past while armed. It is a felony.

51% signs are in places where alcohol for sale exists if the place earns 51% from the sale. Do not go armed.

No race tracks, football or baseball stadiums. Check the Texas DPS web site and download the concealed handgun laws.

Isn't there a national CHL reception act? I was under the impression that passed and now if you have a stare issued CHL its good in any state that issues them. Still have to follow state laws on where and what you carry though. Am I wrong?

Yes you are mistaken. The statute passed the House, but hasn't been voted on in the Senate. Don't know if it will get a vote in the Senate during this term.

Yet another reason to not leave the great state of Texas.
