I have a Sony Bravia that's at least 12 years old. It has a built in digital receiver and I'm not short of signal here in Vegas. Even so, I have two baffling problems.

1) On one channel the color is all wrong. It's almost liek a color negative, with a lot of deep pink/mauve on the screen. It reminds me of the old joke about NTSC transmission, Never Twice the Same Color.

2) Several channels come up Audio Only. That's a lie, as i shall explain.

I have a kind of OTA DVR setup using an Ematic digital receiver box with a 1TB laptop drive hooked up to it. That thing receives all the channels perfectly, no color shifts, no "audio only" messages. Therefore, I can be sure that the stations are broadcasting the sensible signals. I have another TV to check with, but it needs rescanning.

I tried the obvious reset procedure wit hthe Sony, I unplugged it for five minutes. No change on the offending channels. There is another, deeper reset I can try, but I need to record all the sound and picture settings I have right now before I go that far.

Any ideas?

Get another Ematic tuner for the TV.

I assume your tv firmware is current.

It could be a software problem. That sounds exactly what happened after installing an update on my Mac. The screen went from normal to pink. I restored my system from a backup, screen was back to normal.

I don't think age (assuming no failures) has anything to do with it. The digital signals haven't changed. I'm currently using a 2003-ish plasma TV and a 2006-ish Series3 TiVo. The digital tuners in both still receive and work like they should.

Lol! Yes, those little tuners are dirt cheap really. I did update my TV some years ago, so maybe I need to root around the Web to see if there is another update available.

It is possible that there is some contradiction in the data stream that freaks out the Sony but the Ematic ignores. On the "Movies!" channel, there is a discrepancy between the channel header and the program info, which is clearly from the "This" channel. The color issue on the other channel has me flat baffled.
