I have not sold any of my personal collection (private sale) since the Va. law went into effect in 2020 requiring background checks for private sales. (see attached website). Prior to that time private sales were OK in Virginia. A couple of questions for those folks in Virginia.

1. As i read the code it does NOT require licensed firearms dealers to perform the checks. Has anyone encountered a dealer who does not as a matter of policy do the check for a private seller/buyer? (I know of one in Roanoke who won't do it.)

2. I haven't been to a gun show in several years but the last few I went to, the Virginia State Police had a table set up to do background checks. How does that work? Does the seller and the buyer have to go to the VSP table to get it done.

3. Are there any dealers within 30-50 mile radius of Roanoke who are particularly good and experienced with the private sell process?

4. Anyone heard of any bills introduced for 2023 General Assembly that would repeal this law or at least amend it to make an exception for private sales between holders of Concealed Carry Permits (now that we have a republican Governor)?

Thanks a bunch.

After I retired, worked in a pawnshop in Portsmouth when this came into being. Because the law set a maximum fee, which I believe was 25.00 participation of the FFL is voluntary. Since we only charged 15.00 had no problem doing it. We only stipulated that we be notified that you were coming I case we were slammed and their May be a wait to get to it.

I sold a revolver to a fellow this year at the Harrisonburg gun show, State Police had a table for background checks, buyer paid the $2 state fee, simple transaction.
Big Boyz will do person to person transfers, but they don't allow the actual cash transaction to take place on their property.
Doomsday also does P to P transfers.
Roadside Sporting Goods will for people that he knows.
