Question for you IT guys

I use AVG antivirus over McAfee, Norton & Symantic for a variety of reasons. I also use a wonderful product -- Ultimate Defrag by Disktrix.

Some of the tools mentioned earlier, like CCcleaner need to be used with some idea of what you're doing. I've seen many a system severely damaged by it because users didn't understand what they were removing and thus, removed too much. Beware.

Windoze offers a utility to clean unwanted files. These are usually in %TEMP%, cache dirs and image thumbnails. Ultimate Defrag will prompt to clean unnecessary files prior to runnning. Obviously, with that many files you have a lot of disk pollution. I would run the Disk Cleanup on Windows first and see where you are. WinDirStat, a free program, will create a visual map of your disk that you may find useful.

Good luck.

And they get what they get, at the price they pay.

A new trend I'm seeing is borderline spyware pre-installed on the machine from the factory. In the past six months I've seen PCs that were damned near unusable until all that garbage was cleaned off.

"Just turn it on" is largely a thing of the past. It's entirely possible that you're going to pay somebody to make your NEW PC usable... out of the box.

You can get Revo Uninstaller Pro to clean up all the Bloatware that vendors preinstall. It will clean the registry of those programs too (BE CAREFUL) if you choose.

I'll probably exit after this so I don't get in trouble. I'm surprised at some and the comments on the advertising. Just like this forum, if you buy cheap (join and don't contribute), you get ads. You can filter the ads and use software to block the ads and do a lot of things to get around the ads but the only "hassle free" way around the ads is to PAY to not have the ads :)

Likewise with PCs, the cheaper the machine, the more bloatware you'll get. SOMEONE is paying to bend the cost curve. There are some really unfair parallels being drawn in this thread. You may sometimes get less than you pay for but one thing is pretty certain, you RARELY get more than you pay for.

Buy a quality higher end machine and you'l see how clutter free it is. Compare apples to apples (pun intended)!

Isn't that what most here tell new shooters and new reloaders? Buy quality????? Yet when they leave their hobby space, they fall into the same traps they try to help people avoid in this hobby!!!!

Stay away from the Mac stuff, its not worth it. I've supported and sold all over the years and you get just as much trouble with Apple are anything else.
There is a lot of good advice in the thread already (and bad advice like the buy a mac).
Clean up the mess or start clean and don't use MS products, drop IE, OE, etc. Use Firefox or Chrome/chromium, etc to keep it clean.

Most of it just uninstalls manually from Programs and Features. Anything else I can do with Hijackthis, which is free.
