Question on 4 inch Pre-Model 29

About how many Pre-Model 29's with four inches barrels were made. I have a line on one, and am wondering how rare they are?

Sounds like a sweet gun to have a line on. How does a guy confirm that's the original barrel length? Is the stamping centered on pre 29s?

44 Magnums (Pre-29) with a four inch barrel were made from late 1956 to early 1958 when MOD-29 was stamped in the yoke cut. Pre-Model 29s with a 5-screw frame are probably more scarce than those with a 4-screw frame. The actual number made is unknown, but it is speculated at least several thousand exist.

I sold mine with ONE LITTLE ding ten years ago and I'd say if 98% or better buy it. I have never found another as nice.

If it's not collector grade buy it and shoot it as they are great guns.
