A local shop has a 4" blue, it locks up/times like the proverbial bank vault. The only thing bad about it there's some pitting on the cylinder and tiny bit at the end of the barrel on the left side. Makes me wonder if it was stored on that side improperly. I couldn't get a good look at the forcing cone as I didn't have a flashlight and the young man behind the counter couldn't find one-huh?? lol.

I know the guy that handles the used stuff at this shop, he'll be in on Tuesday and I'll talk more to him about it. I'm sorry I can't provide photos but what would a ballpark value (ugh, everyone asks that, apologies) on it be?

Right now it's at $550, just the revolver, nothing else.

No flashlight, nobody had a phone?
Totally worth it if the forcing cone isn't cracked.
I'd check to make sure the barrel isn't bulged too, it happens sometimes.
IF you wanted to nitpick and improve the odds of it being really accurate you could slug the barrel and make sure a .358" pin gauge won't go through the throats.
A nice clean cylinder will set you back about $120 and may or not time to the gun without work. Might be that a little bronze wool and cold blue would get it close enough you won't mind the surface damage from it's past.

If you look for a cylinder remember a 19-4 should have a recessed cylinder. Be sure if shooting magnums that you shoot heavy bullets to lessen the chance of cracking the forcing cone. Take that thing out and enjoy it. You got a great deal.

If it's mechanically sound, buy it. That's cheap for a quality woods/work gun as it is, and you could address the cylinder without getting ahead of the value. Unless you have 5 more in the safe, go for it.

I just happen to have a 19-4 decked out with Herrett's Jordan Trooper stocks and a gold bead front sight. Had it since it was new and I think
I will keep it.

Thanks all, in the past 44+ years I've had a few 19s as well as a plethora of other Smiths LOL. I'm currently without a 4" K, but just found something else I'm more hot to get so this one will go to someone else.

Certainly sounds like it was laying on something that absorbed moisture. If that is the only defect, I'd say $550 is a good price, at least these days.
