thinking of seriously of a 457 for carry IWB... can find everything i'm looking for about it (can't find one local) except the width/thickness... can someone give me that spec or tell me how it compares to a Glock 19, a sig p238 or something similar..

not concerned about other dimensions, but the glock is too thick for me..

thanks.

Unless someone else gives you the answer before me, I can check the thickness on mine in a couple of hours (when I get off work).

OK, here you go:

457:
widest (thickest) part of slide: .99"
including the safety lever: 1.2"

for comparison...

Model 59:
widest (thickest) part of slide: .93"
including safety lever: 1.16"

3913:
widest (thickest) part of slide: .925"
including dual-sided safety lever: 1.38"

4053:
widest (thickest) part of slide: .99"
no safety lever so no change at back of slide

Keltec PF-9:
widest (thickest) part of slide: .875"
no safety lever so no change at back of slide

If you need any other measurements, let me know.

awesome!!

thanks a ton. if you have time and it's convenient, the only other thing that would be great would be the grip width at the widest part and the height of the gun from the bottom of the grip to the top of the slide.. if it's too much hassle, no sweat.. what you provided is a huge help!

Sure, got everything here in front of me...

grip width (front to back): 2.19" at the "heel" of the grip
grip thickness (side to side): 1.23"
both measurements with Hogue grips, but it should not be much different with the original grips.

height of gun from bottom of grip (no mag in place) to top of slide:
4.76"
same height including original rear sight:
5.11"

I carry a 457S on most days. I measured the width a while back and according to my notes it was 1.09" across the grips with the factory grips. I also own and carry a 3913 which is really only slightly smaller. In fact my 457 will fit in the kydex holster made for my 3913, but it is snug and I don't carry it that way. I carry the 457 in a leather holster and that increases the width substantially compared to the 3913 in the kydex. There is no problem concealing the gun unless the shirt fits somewhat snugly.

I also own a Glock 23 which is the same size as your 19. I find the 457 easier to conceal. It is not just width, it is the shape. I find that hammer guns conceal better than striker fired guns when the gun is carried with a forward cant. Also the single stack 457 with the factory grips is considerably thinner than the Glock across the grip. I love the Glock but it just does not carry as well for me.

The 457 is a great carry gun and a bargain for what they usually sell for.

Bill,
What make/model kydex do you have that will fit both the 3913 and the 457? I have an Uncle Mike's kydex that's for the 3913, but the 457 is just too thick...

I use the Fist Kydex. I have three of them for different guns. I like them because they are very thin. They have one problem. The belt loop is attached to the holster in a way that can allow the fastener to scratch the gun. I put tape over that part to keep it from scratching. Also the kydex is very thin and it is possible to get some cracking at some wear points. I have had to drill stop some of the cracks. BUT these holsters will conceal better than anything else I have found and they are very good in hot climates where perspiration can be a problem with leather.

I will probably buy another Fist kydex holster to make my 457 even more concealable.
