Question on grip design change N Frame

Was there ever a reason noted why the speed loader cutout style grip had almost become fat compared to the earlier football style grips.It seems that after the cokes, hand placement and ergonomics was no longer considered by Smith.

My impression is that by this time "the company" simply didn't care anymore. This may have been in large because the majority of purchasers were installing after-market stocks anyway, and so there wasn't a good reason to go to the expense of making good factory stocks.

That makes sense.
 
They have to make stocks that fit the average hand. It's difficult to please everyone. Changes are usually made to save money during production.

The old target stocks are beautifully proportioned to an N frame, but not so sure about fitting the average hand. They are dang big unless you have really large hands.
