I was looking at a nice Pre-Model 27 recently. The serial number dates it to 1951. The grips are the standard magnum grips. The owner allowed me to remove the grips. Neither grip is numbered; no stamps, no penciled numbers.

I am assuming that the grips are replacement, but I am not sure what S&W's grip numbering policy was in 1951. I would appreciate any comments.

Normally the numbers would have been stamped on top half of right grip in two lines.

usually factory Magna type stocks are numbered but I would not be a bit surprised if sometimes they slipped through unstamped. Odds are they are replacement parts but if the correct type and style this would inconsequential to value.

BTW- Where's Utaqh?
