I have a model thirteen that is hard to push the latch on... it is sluggish in return also.
My initial guess is 30 years of crud/old lube in the ejector arm? etc

The gun is smooth and accurate other than this issue...

is it common ? do I need to just be\reak it won clean n lube?

Thanks for the help in advance!

model 13

check the ejector rod to make sure it has not worked loose, it has left handed threads,if it is not loose it might be bent.

the ejector rod is smooth and the cylinder swings in and out easy its the pushing the thumb latch that's hard...

rule out the center pin inside the ejector rod.

on the cylinder face, push on the center pin (center of the star extractor) and if it snaps back with spring pressure, then the culprit is your thumb latch body.

If sluggish or sticky, try some penetrating oil (Kroil) to see if it frees up a little...if so, time for a full stripping cleaning.

Thats what it does... I forgot to mention that if I push on the center of the star extractor that it is hard and slugggish. I did spray penetrating oil there once and iit freed up for a bit.

is there a link to the takedown here on the sight somewhere?

Thanks-paul

Thanks Guys that did it... although I did find a broken sideplate screw... the one in the front that holds the crane in...

so now where do I get replacement screws reasonable?

I bought this many years ago back before I could even appreciate open sights... I got it and a few model 10's just because for a 125.00 or so I could not say no. I figured I could always put bull barrels and sights on em. Over the last few years I have gained an appreciation for fixed sight guns I never had as a youngster... then again having many guns for different uses lessons the need for different ammo in one gun all the time ;)

try the WTB section of the classifed area of this forum.

be sure to indicate finish, which screw (flat or round head) and any revision of your piece

meaning Model 10 dash 7 for example

Brownell's carries spare parts for S&W revolvers. There was a yoke screw change between the M13-3 and M13-4. Talk to them at (800) 741-0015, and they'll get you the correct one for your particular dash-number. These will run from $4 to $8 depending on which one.
