I looked at a model 27 4 inch a week ago in a nearby gunshop. Very nice condition, priced at $675 if I remember correctly. There was a rather large number 2 stamped on the rear of the cylinder. What did it mean?
Sounds correct for a blued 27-2. I understand that's how S&W communicated with the polishing department. Highway Patrolman cylinders were typically marked with an "H", nickel 27 cylinders were marked with an "N" and blued cylinders were marked with a "2". One of my blued 27-2's has two "2"'s stamped on the back.
Did you measure the barrel from the front of the cylinder? Good price on a 4" if it's in excellent condition.
