My first question is where can I get the parts diagram of 340PD, 360PD and M&P340. I remember I have no problem getting it few months ago, seems like S&W changed and I cannot find the diagram specifically for these model.

I am looking into buying one of these and I have not decided which one as I read cylinder wearing problem with the titanium cylinder that cannot stand high power rounds. Sounds like the M&P with steel cylinder is a safer choice.

The titanium cylinder coating is easily damaged with solvents. Then it can wear/erode quickly. It gets ugly without cleaning it thoroughly, but it will last a long time. Titanium can handle hot loads, but it does -stretch- more. Hot loads can be harder to extract brass.

Edit for: The m&p is a great choice. It is not quite as light, but it is still lighter than a 642/442. You can purchase a new titanium cylinder for a pretty reasonable price and then have the ability to carry it with a 340pd weight, if so desired.

I like the j frame 642/442/340 for pocket carry. I like the 340 for carry in the woods/backcountry/hiking, just for the 357 option while keeping weight at a minimum.

Anyone Have the parts diagram? I remember I could easily get the manual with parts easily on 340PD a year ago, now I cannot find any.

Thanks

Look in Numrich, aka Gun Parts Corp. They have parts diagrams for just about everything.

As Alk8944 correctly noted, Numrich has many S&W schematics. Although I don't see one for the 340PD specifically, there are several for many models of J-frame; one should get you going in the right direction.

Other than some probably non-user serviceable parts like the hammer/trigger pins and 2 piece barrels, does anything on the scandium frames differ in design from any other modern J-frame?

Thanks, I looked through it quickly, I don't see one for 340PD, 360PD and M&P340. I remember they are very different from the old J frame guns which I have and very familiar.

The new ones are NOT one piece barrel, there is an inner tube. Things are quite different from the old J frames. I had it, I lost it. I remember the design is better than the old single piece barrel, the part of the frame is more robust on the 340, 360 than in the older J frame. Of cause less of a chance of crack frame from over tightening of the barrel to match the frame.

I just want to find the diagram before I commit to buy the gun.

I remember it's very very different, the barrel is NOT one piece, there's an inner tubing. To me, that's a huge improvement from the old ones. The old ones risk of tighten the barrel too much to match the frame and it can crack the frame by over tightening the barrel. I had the parts diagram for 340PD and 360PD, I lost them. They used to be very easy to find on S&W site, I can't find it now.

I carried a Model 642 for years with 158 grain Lead HP .38 Special +P. Eventually I found a no-lock M&P340. I tried to get used to 357 Magnum loads in it, but it was painful and hard to control. Back to the 158 grain LHP +P for me.
