Question on value of 66-5 3"

I picked up a used (and a little bit abused) 66-5 that has the unusual 3" barrel. It has the MIM hammer and trigger, but pre-lock. The simulated color case on the MIM hammer and trigger is gone, but they are not rusted, so I don't know what the deal is on that. It has a couple of bumps but is mechanically sound, with proper carry up and as new amount of end shake. It appears to have been a carry gun or something. Black rear sight, red insert on the front. Came with rubber grips. I am not planning to keep it and want to either sell it or trade it for a newer model 60 in 357 magnum. ( I already have two older 38 spl model 60, and want a 357 with the 2+ inch barrel).

Can you experts give me a value idea. Just looking for a ball park and I know photos and condition are a huge factor. I am just trying to find out if the prelock but MIM gun and the 3" barrel has any premium value.

The 3" barrels seem to be in high demand and overall the older pre-lock Mod 66 are popular. From what you describe the gun may have some cosmetic issues which could affect its sales price.

I recently bought a 66-1 2 1/2 inch barrel in great condition with box and papers for less than $600. I would think you would have to price lower to sell, amybe $450-500. Pictures would help to determine condition..

I was under the impression that the 66-5 had a 3 1/4" barrel (?)

Maybe that would make it a little harder to find/ more desirable?

I picked up my 66-5 (2.5" barrel) w/box and papers for $350 about four or five years ago. Mind you, the 3" barrel are not as easy to come by.

No Louie, I am not angry with you. You got a deal. I said there was a little story behind it and YOU asked what that was. The seller and I were working a deal and trying to set up a time to meet. Then he, NOT YOU, backed out. I should of known better than to use the E-mail provided on the page to contact the actual seller, but it is what it is.
