My son-in-law got rid of his .357s and gave me 100 Winchester cases that he had sized, belled and primed. The problem is he does not remember whether he used magnum or regular primers. I want to load them for practice loads with 148 gr HBWC and 2.8 grs of Bullseye. Should it matter about the primer used? Thanks in advance for your opinions.

For that light target load, it does not matter what the primer is.

What I would do, is bump the powder charge up to 3.0 grains of Bullseye.

If you're using 357 cases check a load manual for suggested Bullseye loads. I've not seen it but enough people have reported Kabooms with mag brass and light charges of Bullseye that I would be very careful. Theories as to exactly why this happens are numerous, I'm not sure there is a definitive answer but the reports go back in shooting literature for decades.

To light a load is a problem. My Lyman manual has 4.6 of Bullseye with a lead bullet of that weight. Move up and forget the primer. A mag primer is only in question at the upper end of things.
