I just obtained a new to me M49 and their is a few things about this that I have personally never seen and was hoping I could gain some valuable information from the amazing wealth of knowledge this forum generates.

Lets dig in, first off this is a M49 no dash and it has a pinned barrel and a serrated trigger (ill assume its a Target Trigger?)

Anyways does anyone know why these features were installed on a J-Frame? Or was this a normal thing for a M49 of this vintage?

Thank you in advance.

The pinned barrel was on all J frames up to about '83,

My 49 has a serrated trigger also. It's about an '82 version, so a late example of a pinned barrel.

These are about the best pocket revolvers made. But not rare.

• Late 1950 - Grooved triggers, already used on I frame target models since 1935, began a transition replacing smooth triggers as standard on all fixed sight I and J frames until completed ~mid-1951.
