Questions On A Lady Smith

A lady has asked me for information on her Lady Smith.

I have the 3rd. edition of The Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson.

First Question: The serial # is BDN6xxx. I can not locate that series in the catalog to provide her a date.

Second Question. It is a 3" heavy barrel model marked 36-3. The catalog states that the 3" heavy barrel model should be marked 36-5.

Any help will be appreciated.

The Lady Smith name was applied to a variety of J and K frame .38s and .357s. Several members keep private serial number databases, but in the SCSW prefix BDC is 2/1989 and BDS is 4/1989; so a good guess for BDN would be 3/1989.

I have seen several 3" 36-3 Lady Smiths and they also have the untapered or bull barrel; a 36-5 is a later version of the same gun but I have not seen an LS variant of this. Hope this is helpful.
