I have a standard size safe but have been thinking of getting a quick access model for my edc...read mixed reviews on the gun vault brand ie: batteries die quick, finger combo problems...I imagine biometric would be even more things to go wrong...any opinions from users welcome...

Sip: IMHO, that is an opening system that you might want to avoid; It looks like for accurate keystrokes one would need a little light. I say avoid any light on your end of the activities possible. I use Gunvault's Minivault with the four finger pressure points. Even in absolute darkness, one can lay a hand into the four finger points and 'type' in the selected code. Also, when the door pops open one does not want a refrigerator light coming on. I have one bolted to the side of a heavy bed side lamp chest where even if I am lying on the floor it is accessible. I have another bolted in my daily driver for use just in case there is some compelling reason to NOT carry concealed into what ever building I have pulled up and parked at. The one draw back I have found is that the key strokes require quite a bit of pressure. My little wife can't reliably make those strokes so she carries the barrel key for each. ......... Big Cholla

Sip, I have the Mini-Vault by Gunvault. It's just OK. I have had some problems with it (it currently will not allow me to reprogram my personal access code after changing the batteries), and it is very small inside. I cannot come even close to closing my hand around a gun that is in it.

I bought the DAC Sportsafe for my gal 3 years ago. It is roomy, easy to program, has a dim interior light that comes on for a couple of seconds and then goes out (you can program it to stay off all the time, so it is not a problem if you don't like the function).

Most importantly, it has a steel plate that you bolt to the wall or other mounting surface. The safe itself attaches to the plate with two internal toggles that are very secure. The box has a handle on it, so that if you want to take the box and move it elsewhere, it is a snap! They sell additional steel plate mounts in case someone wants to secure one in a different location like a boat, or an RV. Just remove the steel box, and attach it to a different plate somewhere else.

I liked it so much that I bought one for myself. I will eventually replace the mini-vault with the DAC Sportsafe.

The only modification I made on my gals, and will make on mine is that there are two small interior metal tabs that allow for a plexiglass shelf/divider. Since I mounted hers sideways on a wall, the tab on the "floor" was exposed when I removed the divider. I bent back the tabs. I cut out piece of posterboard padding and fit it on the "floor" of the safe to keep the bent tab from posing a scratch hazard.

I highly recommend this vault. I told a friends wife about it and she had me get one for her husband for Christmas. The Gunvault mini-vaults are $135. The DAC is $79. A no brainer!

Hey Sip - I have the Gun Vault II (larger) for about a year - been pretty nice/reliable so far for @ $100+ or so - keep my 638 in it. No battery problems - very reliable...

that would never work for me unless I slept like Morticia Addams....:)

Oh come on, no combination to remember, no batteries to die, doesn't have to be bolted down. If wife finds a new gun under it that she didn't know about you can transfer it to the couch. :p

I keep a large size GunVault chained to the seat frame in my truck cab, for permanent storage of valuable small tools, etc., as well a gun, wallet, whatever you may want to keep secure. I have another, smaller GunVault with a security cable and padlock that I can fasten in others' vehicles when the occasion arises. I'm happy with the function of both, although I've had to refresh the adhesive holding the keypad in place once or twice, but keep in mind that it's subjected to prolonged exposure to 150 degree ambient most of the year...

I have a ADG Sports Secure Vault Electronic Top Load Pistol Safe mounted in the trunk of my Toyota Yaris so I could lock my M&P 40 in while at work and about a year later both little cables for the locks broke. I had to drill a hole in the front of it to get it open, but now I need to get a replacement safe and have been trying to find one that just has a key lock without any cables. I don't need the keypads but it would be nice but only if it doesn't use cables. I have been looking but can't find anything that is what I need. The Mini-Vault by Gunvault are nice but they use cables..Thanks..

GunVault

I've had the small GunVault for about 12 years and have no complaints at all. I do consider it more of a tamper resistant box then a theft resistant safe. I have a 14 year old daughter with lots of friends. This should keep my M66 in responsible hands.

I have one of each. The DAC is next to my bed and is opened when i'm home. I wouldn't want to try to open it under stress in the dark. The gunVault came with combo lock and key lock, and is opened much less often. The combo lock part quit working soon after i bought it and now i exclusively use the key. Both brands are fairly inexpensive and built that way..
