As usual, one of my new year's resolutions is to loose some
weight. Dropped 14 pounds the first week! My imagined theory
is to loose a lot the first week or so, for the encouragement to
continue. So far it is working. 267 down to 253.

I'll try not to bore you too much, but a little background, and
some details are in order.

40 or 50 years ago I entered a weight loss contest at my place
of employment. I lost 43 pounds in 90 days and won the prize,
which was $300. Went from 242 to 199 .

The diet was Dr. Stillman's Quick Weight Loss Diet. But later on
I read that the good doctor died from a heart attack. So I thought
it might not be a great idea to use that diet again.

In April 2017, at age 82, I had another heart attack. At the
time my weight was 280. I knew I was way too over weight,
but not doing much about it. I am 6'3" or at least I was.
I may have shrunk an inch or two in my senior years. I was
told "I carry it well", whatever that means. I'm sure it means
people who love me are just being kind.

After the heart attack, through diet and rehab, I got down to
232. I felt great, and didn't look too bad IMHO.

But by December 2018 I had creeped back up to 267. I have
a good appetite and like to satisfy it. But that is when I made
the resolution to loose some weight again.

Here is the diet:

16 oz. cup of black coffee first thing in the morning.

Breakfast is a good size bowl of oatmeal with a sliced banana
and one cup of soy milk. No sugar.

Main meal early afternoon is 8 oz. of broiled meat. Ground
beef or steak. (Fish one day a week). A good size bowl of
garden salad with Paul Newman's oil & vinegar dressing.

Late afternoon I have an apple.

Drink lots of water.

Take a multiple vitamin.

After the first few days I started to have muscle cramps so,
after talking to a dietician, I increased my water intake, and
started to supplement calcium, potassium, and magnesium.
That stopped the cramps.

I hope to get back down the 232 again. Then I have to try
harder to maintain it. I plan to weigh every morning. If
there is a gain of 3 pounds over the 232, I will go back on
the same diet.

As a little motivation, if I reach my weekly objective, I reward
myself with one 12 oz. long neck bottle of beer.

I hope something in this epistle might help some of you.

I was always active and could pretty much eat what I wanted until my degenerative motor nerve condition started. Then my activity level dropped to nearly zero and my weight ballooned. After 'bout 3 years of doctor appointments, different neurologists, neuro-muscular specialists and useless treatment that only made things worse, my Neurologist informed me that there's nothing medical science can do to help and offered to help me get an electric wheelchair, and a prescription for narcotics.
Instead I restructured my diet so I'd still eat healthy but in a caloric deficit. Took 'bout a year but with my wife's help I relearned to walk using the muscles that still work. We joined the YMCA a bit over 3 years ago and work out on a regular basis.
I lost about 80 pounds and for the last few years I've been working on body composition. Increasing lean mass and decreasing the squishy, jiggly stuff.
Last time I weighed myself, I was at 158 pounds.
The difference a year makes:

Congratulations Phil.

Sustained exercise is very difficult for me as I can't traverse a flight of stairs without pulling into a rest stop.

Several months ago I started this regimen:

A large mug of coffee with two pieces of buttered toast, water throughout the day, a sensibly portioned dinner with lots of sriracha and two beers. No snacks or sweets whatsoever.

I have gone from 255 to 238 and I can now see if I'm wearing shoes or not.

Plan"B":

From 390 BC (before prostate cancer) to 343 dc,, to 315 after cancer. Now I'm under 300lbs.

One half corn muffin with coffee for breakfast. (10am) lunch nada. Afternoon snack a few pretzels. About 1/3rd supper I normally ate.

My goal is to lose 10lbs or more per doctors visit. End goal is 225# or more so I can get new knees.

I gained 4-5# during the Christmas and New Years holiday period, to 178.6 pounds. Weighed just a little while ago, I am down to 174.4 pounds.

Weighed 182 in May last year when I decided to start eating less.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

Was 260 in March and am 227 now. My method is fasting once a week for 36 hours, in my case from Saturday after dinner to Monday breakfast. This was recommended to me by my knee surgeon, who would not operate unless I lost weight. Had the knee replaced at the end of October, but am continuing the practice. I'd like to get down under 200.

I try to avoid snacks in general, and processed foods and sugar in particular. (Do like my alcohol though... A man's gotta have his priorities...)
