R.I.P. Grace Lee Whitney

....and those mini skirt uniforms they wore didn't hurt.

Let's not forget her other roles, especially in early TV.

Some like it Hot

Rifleman

The Roaring 20's

And a whole lot more

The one I remember her best in was repeatedly shooting a no good two timer by Martians doing a 'playback' device in another of my TV sci fi favorites, "The Outer Limits".

What I DON'T understand is why she was never a nightclub singer/moll/broad/girlfriend in 'The Untouchables' like all the other dishes were. Star Trek and The Untouchables were both Desilu productions

Carrol 'Connor was a Martian in that episode.

You know, that idea about the 'dishes' in Star Trek and other TV shows would make a topic by itself.

First comes to mind:

Susan Oliver
Sherry Jackson
Madlyn Rhue
Lee Meriwether

Yeoman Rand/ Grace Lee Whitney - Forever on patrol

Of those, Madlyn Rhue was my favorite. She played the science officer intrigued by Khan. Don't forget guest star Mariette Hartley, who played that scantily-clad girl in a cave with Spock. What was that character's name? I can't think of it just now. Zara Beth?

Of the whole ST series, T'Pol was my favorite. Played by Jolene Blalock. My favorite Enterprise captain was Scott Bakula, now on, NCIS New Orleans.

I still want to get a repro phaser, and there are several versions for sale to Trekkers. No idea what they cost.

Boatload of aliens....

Man, there was a boatload, since about every episode had at least one super hot alien babe.

Yvonne Craig (Batgirl)
Barbara Luna (Shee-ZAM!!!!!)
Jill Ireland (Mrs. David McCallum and Mrs. Charles Bronson
Julie Newmar (My Living Doll)
Joan Collins (I believe 'The City on the Edge of Forever' was her at her most beautiful. When she had that long black hippie hair she looked awful.
Terri Garr (The one with the knockers in 'Young Frankenstein'
Joanne Linville (The hottest 40 year old Romulan ever)
Susan Howard (That Klingon make up didn't do anything for her unless you like the trashy heavy eye makeup type)

PS When Khan had it for Rhue, she was a historian (and useless in Kirk's eyes) so he didn't mind beaming her down to the planet.

It's interesting how the notion of an attractive woman has changed since the 60's. Compared to today's track star look, pretty much straight up & down with six-pack abs like the guys, women like Whitney and Nichols look almost fat by comparison. Don't understand me too fast, I prefer the latter. Girls who are built like girls.

Great post! Do me a solid, partner, stay in Michigan. If you come out to the valley, you and I are gonna be competing for the same gals! Stay safe, partner.

Was Grace married to Gene Roddenberry (writer of Star Trek)? I'd heard this tears ago, but have seen nothing on it today.

The Twiggy Look?

I'll take the 'Sophia Loren' look any day.

She was married several times and had a son named Scott, who was a child on the episode 'Miri', but wasn't married to Roddenberry.

She did have a real problem with a sexual assault from a Star Trek executive she only named "The Executive". Have the problems she did, she was vulnerable but takes responsibility for putting herself in that situation.

She could sing, too.

I saw a comment on another site that said "God beamed her up".:)

gosh now I have to google Nurse Chapel.

After reading your post, I had to spend half-an-hour re-reading the Forum rules because I was almost sure that one of Lee's rules was that you were expected to know and remember all the names of the Original Series cast and characters but I guess I'm wrong on that. Whew! I thought you were going to be in trouble there.

Well, if he ever makes it a rule, I'm cool at least.

T'Pol, T'Pol, T'Pol. In case we're still stuck on Star Trek girls we like.

1. T'Pol
2. T'Pol
3. T'Pol

Am I correct or has no one mentioned Arlene Martel, Vulcan bride T'Pring of Spock on "Amok Time?" Many appearances in other series, credited as Arlene Sachs in "The Untouchables," and also in the famous Outer Limits episode (to me) "Demon With A Glass Hand," alongside Robert Culp. Culp was a real shooter, BTW.

P.S. See what you started, Ms. Whitney?

You corrected our omission, she was a sweetie in the ST episode, even if she wanted to see the guys fight it out. And The Demon With The Glass hand was not only a great episode of TOL, it was 'important' as well, written by Harlan Ellison and very original. I haven't heard of any 'retakes' on that story ever. We were hoping that Trent and Consuela were going to stay together, but that ending blew any chance of human relationships right out the window. TDWTGH was way up there in SF literature.

PS I read a book that noted that the make-up in that episode wasn't up to the quality of the series and described the head Kyban 'Arch' as looking like 'Nehru on a bender'.

Anybody remember Joanna Frank as the 'Bee' girl in TOL episode "ZZZZZZ". Holy Moly. The scientist keeps referring to her as a 'child'. Some child.

Jill Haworth - Cathy in 'The Sixth Finger':)

Thank you, rw! And let us not forget or omit the lovely Leslie Parrish in the ST-TOS episode about Apollo, "Whom Gods Destroy." That 'almost-not-there' sheer gown she wore was a classic. And a nightmare for the costuming people as to whether it would stay on!

P.S. In "Demon...", the aliens were armed with S&W Heavy Duty revolvers. Another reason I love this episode.

Inspired by this trip down memory lane, I looked up Grace Lee Whitney's info. Much to my surprise, the character Yeoman Janice Rand only appeared in 8 Star Trek episodes during the first season.
I knew she was written out somewhere along the line, but I thought sure she had a lot more episodes than that.
She made one heck of an impression though as most fans have always considered her to be one of the core characters in the series.
