R.I.P. Grace Lee Whitney

Was Grace married to Gene Roddenberry (writer of Star Trek)? I'd heard this tears ago, but have seen nothing on it today.

She was married several times and had a son named Scott, who was a child on the episode 'Miri', but wasn't married to Roddenberry.

She did have a real problem with a sexual assault from a Star Trek executive she only named "The Executive". Have the problems she did, she was vulnerable but takes responsibility for putting herself in that situation.

She could sing, too.

I saw a comment on another site that said "God beamed her up".

After reading your post, I had to spend half-an-hour re-reading the Forum rules because I was almost sure that one of Lee's rules was that you were expected to know and remember all the names of the Original Series cast and characters but I guess I'm wrong on that. Whew! I thought you were going to be in trouble there.

Well, if he ever makes it a rule, I'm cool at least.

Am I correct or has no one mentioned Arlene Martel, Vulcan bride T'Pring of Spock on "Amok Time?" Many appearances in other series, credited as Arlene Sachs in "The Untouchables," and also in the famous Outer Limits episode (to me) "Demon With A Glass Hand," alongside Robert Culp. Culp was a real shooter, BTW.

Am I correct or has no one mentioned Arlene Martel, Vulcan bride T'Pring of Spock on "Amok Time?" Many appearances in other series, credited as Arlene Sachs in "The Untouchables," and also in the famous Outer Limits episode (to me) "Demon With A Glass Hand," alongside Robert Culp. Culp was a real shooter, BTW.

You corrected our omission, she was a sweetie in the ST episode, even if she wanted to see the guys fight it out. And The Demon With The Glass hand was not only a great episode of TOL, it was 'important' as well, written by Harlan Ellison and very original. I haven't heard of any 'retakes' on that story ever. We were hoping that Trent and Consuela were going to stay together, but that ending blew any chance of human relationships right out the window. TDWTGH was way up there in SF literature.

PS I read a book that noted that the make-up in that episode wasn't up to the quality of the series and described the head Kyban 'Arch' as looking like 'Nehru on a bender'.

Anybody remember Joanna Frank as the 'Bee' girl in TOL episode "ZZZZZZ". Holy Moly. The scientist keeps referring to her as a 'child'. Some child.

Thank you, rw! And let us not forget or omit the lovely Leslie Parrish in the ST-TOS episode about Apollo, "Whom Gods Destroy." That 'almost-not-there' sheer gown she wore was a classic. And a nightmare for the costuming people as to whether it would stay on!

P.S. In "Demon...", the aliens were armed with S&W Heavy Duty revolvers. Another reason I love this episode.

Inspired by this trip down memory lane, I looked up Grace Lee Whitney's info. Much to my surprise, the character Yeoman Janice Rand only appeared in 8 Star Trek episodes during the first season.
I knew she was written out somewhere along the line, but I thought sure she had a lot more episodes than that.
She made one heck of an impression though as most fans have always considered her to be one of the core characters in the series.
