R8 is going back to S&W for service. I fired about 125 rounds without a hitch, then began light striking every other round. It was all factory ammunition and moon clips were not used.

What is the turnaround time on a revolver?

Sorry to hear you are having light strike problems. Before sending it back, check and make sure your strain screw hasn't backed out a bit first. They can do that on you and will cause light strikes. If you don't know where the strain screw is, it is on the lower part of the frame in the grip area on the side of the trigger. I don't know what stocks you have on the gun, so you might have to remove them to have access to the strain screw.

As to turnaround time for an issue like this, I can't help you as I haven't had to send any of my Smiths in for warranty work. I did send my old 27-2 back to the mothership over a year ago to get tuned up and it took about 8 weeks to get it done, but they had to check it out, get back in touch with me to tell me what needed fixing and I had to send them payment. That old gun is over 40 years old and isn't covered under any warranty.

They are pretty quick with warranty work, If you send them other than warranty work, such as non warrantied repairs, you can work on your beard, or read War and Peace a couple of times, or learn to play the guitar while you are waiting.

A search will show that this is a very commonly reported problem with these. My R 8 had the same symptom as well. As these guys mentioned, the strain screw is known to back out. Likely all you need to do is re tighten the screw. A touch of nail polish /loc-tite on the threads before tightening will keep it there.

p.s. Last year when I sent a revolver in for warranty work, it took about 3 weeks for a test fire (only).

Very coincidental on the R8 send back. I have a new R8 and a shipping call tag in my inbox from S&W advising I send mine back, after I called and asked if a loose top strap heat sheild was and issue or ok? The CS guy said I can send it back if I wanted, or wait a bit and send it later. I'm not in a hurry to send it back, as Life Poison stated, the gun rocks otherwise.

Hope you get a fast turn around from them.
