That had to be some cold times.

Yeah, from memory, his fondest recollection from that time was opening a pork patty ration with no heat allowed and not being able to stomach the congealed pork fat on the top of the ration that he was supposed to eat for breakfast.

I think he said he just got the smokes out of the ration and gave the rest away.

Every morning before making coffee, I "throw out the has-beans" from my French press and this morning, with the temp. sitting right on 32º, I was greeted by the morning sun creating steam as it melted the dew on my metal shed. The tractor and excavator usually stored in the shed are out in the field from yesterday's yard work as I have more to do.

I love mornings like this.

A few years ago my gf discovered several baby skunks that had taken up residence under her ground-level deck. No sight of mama, so she assumed they were orphans. They would come out during the day and follow her around like wobbly little bumper cars :D (I remember posting pics here.) Eventully she got them to the local humane society but they were incredibly cute and didn't bother her cats (or vice versa) so she's always had a soft spot for them.

Yesterday she checked the trail camera I lent her and sure enough, Mama skunk was busy at night packing leaves under the deck for her new brood.

"Mmmmm...! Scrambled eggs!"

Katarzyna Kudłacz was preparing a breakfast of scrambled eggs at a research station on Svalbard when she looked up to see she had three unexpected guests... a female polar bear and her two cubs peering into the Polish research station in Hornsund, in the south of the Norwegian archipelago, their noses pressed up against the window...

The family looked healthy, she said, and “only looked at our windows with interest”, but the team decided to fire a flare gun to frighten the bears away...
