Random Object Photographs

OK, enough gloom and doom...

... here are some cat pics :)

This is Milo, who belongs (if I can use that term loosely) to my gf's neighbors. He comes over the fence pretty much daily to visit (and occas. harrasses "Charlie-of-the-epic-whiskers", who is now familiar to the cat lovers here.) He's a real charmer and a character, although a bit quirky and occas. difficult. But certainly camera-friendly.

A balanced diet

Just found this pic of a sign my gf & I bought in a local antiques store in Bellingham and gave to our favorite breakfast spot where we've been eating for a decade. (They do really good home-made cookies, too.)

First steel being cut on Tuesday, for the latest of America's guided missile destroyers, the USS Quentin Walsh, DDG 132.

Named after a Coast Guard Captain, awarded the Navy Cross for a daring small-team assault, capturing the much larger German garrison fortress holding Cherbourg on D-Day, and gaining the critical port for invasion forces shipping.

Thought this would be appropriate for the random object thread:

Sits over the fireplace mantle in my living room. Left behind by the house's previous owner. I have no idea what it is, but I like it.

The previous owner traveled a lot, and seems to have had an affection for Africa, so it may be some sort of folk art from somewhere over there.

Cats review mats

Have we reached "peak cat" ("caturation") here yet? Well, this may help.

I bought my gf an anti-fatigue mat for her upcoming birthday as she gets a sore back when working for extended periods at her scanner doing her "scanography." She hasn't had a chance to use it yet but her cats have, and given their opinions:

The mat is 20" x 39", which gives some idea of the cats' size.

Once she has had a chance to try it - cats permitting - I may post this pic on an Amazon review :D

UPDATE, Nov. 21 10pm:
She spent several hours tonight on the mat while working on the scanner... and attempting (not always successfully) to avoid stepping on the cats, who indeed seem to have taken it over as their own.

It would appear that she will have to get the cats their own mat, although there is of course no guarantee that they will therefore relinquish hers. "Huston, we could have a problem..." :)

Took me a few seconds to register what it was. Kinda like those Rorschach blots, whih can appear to be two different things. My first thought was a high-contrast b&w pic of something like a porcupine hitting a high-tension wire. (OK, I do have a slightly weird imagination.)

My friend in NY made this Lox Pizza today. Look appealing to anyone? :D
By the responses so far, it would seem that the "Noes" have won the day on that question. I imagine a scene in a movie where this is brought out, with a quick cut to all the real pizzerias in Little Italy hurriedly slamming their doors shut in protest.

No offense intended to your friend, but.....

LOL, kinda thought so, especially since lox is usually an acquired taste, and it's simply not found in much of the country.
Of course, calling it a pizza is just a bit of fun. It's more like a 16" flat bagel with fixins.
