Now, here's something you don't see every day!
A couple of days ago, a sperm whale washed up on the beach about ten miles north of here. This is the 4th beached whale I've seen, and is the only sperm whale I've seen, and is definitely the biggest I've seen. The second photo shows how close it is to the Peter Iredale, also known as "The Shipwreck".
I found out about it yesterday after it was already dark, so I planned on taking photos first thing in the morning, but high tide was at 7:30, so I waited until this afternoon. There were a bunch of marine biologists all doing their thing.
One mistake I made was walking on the down-wind side of it. I almost lost my lunch, and that would have been extremely embarrassing in front of everyone who was there! I had forgotten just how powerful that stench is!
