Getting ready to buy my first gun, and it most likely will be a revolver. Is there a range bag/gun bag better suited for revolvers vs. pistols? Bud

I have a Dillon that has served me for close to 20 years I guess. Still looks new.

One thing I'll do on my next one, I will NOT get black! After trying to find a black part in a black bag, I wish I had a different color. The thing is like a black hole, swallowing up pretty much everything, trouble is I shoot a lot of Glocks, and all the freaking parts and accessories are black. Can't find squat in my range bag.

On the other hand, the black probably stays clean a lot longer than a lighter color would.

Bud,
Quite a coincidence as I just ordered a range bag from Midway. They come in 2 sizes and I ordered the large, in black because the OD color is on backorder. I guess what size bag you get depends on what you plan to carry. I suggest you go larger rather than smaller. After packing your gun(s), ammo, targets, stapler, cleaning supplies, hearing and eye protection.......well, you get the idea. Like a gun safe, the biggest mistake seems to be buying to small (guns and supplies do multiply). If you'd like, when it arrives I'll give you my opinion, it should be here by the weekend.

I just use a gym bag big enough to hold all my shooting supplies: gun(s), ammo, targets, eyes and ears, first aid kit, small tool kit, and some cleaning supplies. I like it because it's low profile; I live in an apartment complex and I'd rather not advertise my status as a gun owner.

Gate mouth tool bags beat just about every "range" bag available and at bargain prices.

Hey,
I purchased two Midway Range Bag's for myself and son... Great quality and value for the price, check em out!

I'll have to agree with quote.

Currently using a bag that Porter Cable provided with a set of 4 power tools.

I have multiple "range bags" which are either gym bags, a bag obtained from saving Coca Cola caps, or the tool bag I got from the NRA. All you need is storage space and zippered pockets. Go to a mart and check out the sporting goods or luggange department. You don't need to pay a premium just because the seller is promoting it as a range bag.

The NRA tool bag has several pockets on the side which are just right for pistol magazines.

I have an old blue Dillon range bag. I don't know how long I have had it, but they have not made it in blue in a good many years. It is just big enough. I put two or three guns in it and tit is heave enough that I don't want to carry it very far.

Some very helpful ideas guys. I should have added, what do you put the gun in before you put it in yor bag? Bud

Go to Walmart and get a green Stanley tool bag. Plenty of room, 'gate mouth' opening. $15.
They have one great advantage over a ' range bag '.
It does not scream 'THERE ARE GUNS IN THIS BAG!'.

As for what to carry your gun in, Plano and others make a nice hard side gun case that sells for around $ 10. I know others are happy with "tool bags" and they are cheap. I believe they are for tools, not guns, and range bags have specific features for firearms. And remember, a good range bag will last a lifetime so you're going to live with your choice for a long time. Good Luck.

If you buy the Midway Large Bag it comes with two gun "rugs" (separate padded sleeves) which easily hold two guns each.

Only buy it when it's on sale, which it is now,

MidwayUSA Competition Range Bag - MidwayUSA

It's a big bag, very well made. If you think it's too big then the ideas of soft side tool bags work great also. Home Depot, Lowes, Wal Mart, Sears. If you get one of those just get a soft side gun case for $5-$10 to put the gun in, then in the bag.

Same here, but it's because after one session I started putting my eyes & ears into someone else's black bag...

trouble is I shoot a lot of Glocks,

Yeah... that is a problem...:D

For the OP, I got mine at Walmart. Works OK. You're gonna find that buying the gun is the cheap part of our sport. ;)

I put my range guns in a lockable hard case, Doskesill (sp?), I think. It's the one sized for one gun but I can usually fit two in it.
