Spoken like a true hunter! The key words in your reply, and the ones I personally liked, were " an extra box of 30-06 shells".I always take way more ammo with me than I ever use or need. Better to have and not need than to need and not have. Plus I always carry a spare coke with me as well!
No kidding
One time I caught my boot on a big tree root... Dropped my rifle and it rolled into a big pile of mud. Used one of my extra gloves to wipe all the mud off, then replaced the shells with dry ones. Never again will I leave for hunting without extra goodies.
