I’m giving my son a pistol and money for range time. I’m looking for a good range bag and hearing and eye protection.
Thank you.

I like Savior bags. Different sizes, nice color selection. Can be found at Brownells and some LGS. I have the Walker Xcel BT500 because it has a better NR rating, and the voice clarity is excellent. A little spendy but I thought it was worth it

I bought an Osage River Tactical Range Bag at Amazon ($45). It's a solid bag with plenty of room to carry several pistols, plenty of ammo, eye and ear protection, and target materials. I'd let my son make the choice for eye and ear protection.

One thing i bought for my muffs was a hard side storage case just made to fitt muffs. Well worth the money.

For ears I use Howard Leight Impact Pros with some gel pads off of amazon for a better seal/comfort. I also have the Walker Razor Slims. I add ear plugs under each of those for extra protection at indoor ranges. Both are pretty great for protection but also sound amplification for conversations. Hope this helps!

For hearing protection I'd recommend the combination of Howard Leight foam ear plugs (33dB NR rating) with the Peltor ear muffs - also (33dB NR rating). As far as I know that's about the maximum protection you can get in today's market. I'd stay away from the electronic type muffs because their NR rating is usually well under 26dB's NR. The only exception would be to wear them while actively taking instructions on the firing line - then switch back to what I mentioned above.

As far as a range bag is concerned - I'd NOT buy any marked range bag with a shooting or gun company's logo or name on it! I'd go into a sporting goods store and just get a plain Jane "Gym Bag". No one needs to surmise what is in it!!! Usually gym bags have a bit more room as well. My range bag is nothing more than a plain Jane gym bag my son bought me about 30 years ago for a Father's Day gift. It is still going strong!

Even some expensive range bags look like diaper bags IMO. I found a stout alligator covered suitcase about the size of a manual portable typewriter case - to use as a pistol case. In it I placed a row of hard foam Pistol Rack, a piece of foam for the grip end, & foam in the lid. I may be able to mount a small scope to it eventually.. I also use a large canvas forest-camo tote bag (made in India) bought on Ebay @ $9. It, can carry ammo, rifle rest, or pistols in rugs. I'd recommend stout military surplus Bags - over pricey range bags.
I've even been keeping my eyes open at thrift stores - for a fat Golf Gag on a 2 wheel carrier for my rifles. @ 78 they wear me out carrying between Car & Firing Line. Since a Lovely Assistant isn't likely.

I use power tool bags like DeWalt, Porter Cable, Craftsman, etc.. They are heavy duty and hold a lot. I find them cheap at yard sales for a dollar or two.

Foam ear plugs AND Muffs are a must. All kinds of range bags out there to fit your needs. Did I mention the importance of foam ear plugs AND muffs!!!!!!!!!!

I like the Midway range bags and Peltor Tactical Pro muffs.

I've used all kinds of different styles of bags as range bags with mixed success. However, several years ago my son presented me with a G.P.S. Tactical Range Backpack for Christmas, and it's become my one and only range bag. It has several large divided sections and has pockets all over the backpack. On one side is a compartment for holding 3 padded and zippered handgun/magazine cases. Every compartment in this backpack is labeled for a particular purpose (ear muffs, glasses, stapler, tools, etc.) which makes it easy to quickly find where you stashed them. It also has a pocket that contains a waterproof rain cover for the bag. I haven't used it as a "backpack" yet, but it works great as a range bag and as a bench shooting support bag. Lots of velcro and MOLLE attachments, as well as rings and clips. These backpacks aren't cheap, but they're extremely practical. As far as shooting muffs, I have Walker and Peltor. Also some Surefire ear plugs. My shooting glasses are my prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses, but I also bring along regular old protective eyewear.
