Range Bags and Hearing and Eye Protection

I like Savior bags. Different sizes, nice color selection. Can be found at Brownells and some LGS. I have the Walker Xcel BT500 because it has a better NR rating, and the voice clarity is excellent. A little spendy but I thought it was worth it

I bought an Osage River Tactical Range Bag at Amazon ($45). It's a solid bag with plenty of room to carry several pistols, plenty of ammo, eye and ear protection, and target materials. I'd let my son make the choice for eye and ear protection.

One thing i bought for my muffs was a hard side storage case just made to fitt muffs. Well worth the money.

For ears I use Howard Leight Impact Pros with some gel pads off of amazon for a better seal/comfort. I also have the Walker Razor Slims. I add ear plugs under each of those for extra protection at indoor ranges. Both are pretty great for protection but also sound amplification for conversations. Hope this helps!

For hearing protection I'd recommend the combination of Howard Leight foam ear plugs (33dB NR rating) with the Peltor ear muffs - also (33dB NR rating). As far as I know that's about the maximum protection you can get in today's market. I'd stay away from the electronic type muffs because their NR rating is usually well under 26dB's NR. The only exception would be to wear them while actively taking instructions on the firing line - then switch back to what I mentioned above.

As far as a range bag is concerned - I'd NOT buy any marked range bag with a shooting or gun company's logo or name on it! I'd go into a sporting goods store and just get a plain Jane "Gym Bag". No one needs to surmise what is in it!!! Usually gym bags have a bit more room as well. My range bag is nothing more than a plain Jane gym bag my son bought me about 30 years ago for a Father's Day gift. It is still going strong!

Even some expensive range bags look like diaper bags IMO. I found a stout alligator covered suitcase about the size of a manual portable typewriter case - to use as a pistol case. In it I placed a row of hard foam Pistol Rack, a piece of foam for the grip end, & foam in the lid. I may be able to mount a small scope to it eventually.. I also use a large canvas forest-camo tote bag (made in India) bought on Ebay @ $9. It, can carry ammo, rifle rest, or pistols in rugs. I'd recommend stout military surplus Bags - over pricey range bags.
I've even been keeping my eyes open at thrift stores - for a fat Golf Gag on a 2 wheel carrier for my rifles. @ 78 they wear me out carrying between Car & Firing Line. Since a Lovely Assistant isn't likely.
