My best friend had to go to the doc today to get some spinal injections which are part of the rehab from a auto accident. Since he had to be put under I was driving him home afterwards. There is a really nice indoor range called Shoot Point Blank right around the corner from his place, so I took a few guns with and went by after I dropped him off. Started with a nice 6906 that I picked up from coledistributing before they had their shop fire and lost everything. Was a bit disappointed in the accuracy of this one. Best group at 10yd was around 8inch which is at least twice what I get from most handguns. This one may end up in the sell pile sometime in the future.
Next up was my '54 4inch Highway Patrolman which has been refinished a couple times. Now, N frame magnas fit my hand pretty good. Not as good as K frame targets, but close. I was gobsmacked that I can easily control a K-frame with targets better than a N-frame with magnas using standard 158gr .357 Magnum loads. Using 158gr .38 Specials in it was a treat and extremely accurate. I have a picture of a 6rd SA group at 10yds below on the same target I was shooting my next gun. 4 shots almost touching in a vertical line measuring 3/4inch from center to center and two touching just to the right of the rest. The whole group was 1 1/4inch at the widest point and I was using the white circle in the numeral 6 as a aiming point.
Brought my RIA 1911 topped with a Marvel Unit 2 for some rimfire plinking. The Unit 2's are set up to run high velocity ammo and all I had was Federal bulk with me. Definitely need to go back with some hi-vel and try again. The marvel website states that the recoil spring needs to be replaced to run standard velocity reliably and I will see about ordering a spring kit from them. I have oodles of Federal bulk.
Final gun was the FNS-9 I picked up from AIM recently. I am very impressed with the accuracy and reliability of this polymer pistol. My only beef is that it shoots 2 to 3 inches low at all ranges inside of 25yd using lighter bullets. I am running 115gr WWB for practice ammo and a variety of 124gr defensive ammo. I have picked up some 147gr to see if that will raise my POI. If it does not then I will see about a different front sight. Pic below of my best 10yd group with it. Most within 3inch with a couple outliers taking it to 4inch. POA was 12 o'clock on the yellow inner dot.
