You missed!! :) Nice group. I have a .30 Gov't 06 of the same vintage and stock style. I LOVE it. The Winchester Model 70 is the perfect bolt gun in my minds eye. Enjoy that .257 Bob. I bet it gives a sweet little kiss when the trigger is squeezed...........

Doesn't Federal or Hornady make a sort of Plus P round that performs better than the old standard .257 ammo?

I have the same rifle in 257 also made in 1949. I picked it up about 15 yrs ago and never fired it, got a lot of rifles.

Nice gun and in a nice caliber. I had the same vintage mod 70. Started with a 30-06 that had previously been cut to 20". I had it rebarreled to 25-06 cause I like the caliber and the 30-06 was stomping me in the ground. Lighter bullet, less recoil.

Serial # 53xxx IIRC, 1947 and it will do 5/8" 3 shot groups at 100yds all day long. It is my go to deer rifle.

Thanks for bringing back the memories.

Charlie

Glass?

Was aiming 6:00 o'clock at the six inch splatter target

Are you considering glass on your beautiful rifle? I put a Leupold on mine with quick detach mounts so I have options. They point so well with that stock design. I enjoy shooting with irons also. Again, nice group!
