I see nothing wrong with hunting but for the simple reason of not wanting to personally kill an animal, I don't hunt. *nothing against hunters or varmit snipers*

So I spend alot of time at the range. I take about 4-500 rounds with me but I usually shoot around 350 depending on who comes with. In about 7 trips to the range and about 2500 rounds fired, I have yet to see anyone blast away at targets like I like to.
Some fire about 20 shots and after hitting the bullseye a few times they pack up and go. One old man sighted his scope in taking only 3 shots before leaving. Others bring a slew of weapons, putting about 30 rounds through each of them. Those guys always have a 22 plinker.
So what category do see yourself in. Do you send 300+ down range or are you satisfied spending just enough rounds to know your guns are shooting well?

Nice...something to get me thinking about my SHOOTING at 8am.... Thanks CENTURION24

I have hunted quite a bit in the past... Now if a Coyote ran across the DESERT of AZ while i was shooting.... GAME on... otherwise I am a FREE RANGE shooter....:D

I bring my 2 AR ..23 and my 15-22 and LOB about 600rds of .22 and last time about 250 .223.... I also have a Slide fire stock i swap from M&P 15-22 and M&P 15 Sport for FULL RETARDATION FUN:eek::cool:
Then about 100-9mm, 50-.357 and wife shoots about 300-.22

We have a BLAST (pun intended), keep in mind not on a Range but in the Desert...... Clay targets, Potatoes, Reactive Balls, Cans, Watermelons, Paper targets.... NOTHING stands a chance with us when we shoot;)... and we bring home more carnage (cans and Garbage) than we brought each time...

Heck Im sure i could site in my Rifles a BIT Better... but I am having too much fun to slow down that long...

Anyways....... thats MY Specific Category.... I never have fit in a single square or round Peg.... so why start NOW....LOL

....

I love to hunt, especially for game that I will eat. I could go prairie dog hunting a lot more than I do but after loosing my two dogs in the last 6 months, one to cancer and the other to a felon with a firearm who shot my Rotty in my front yard and then I had to finish her off (very heartbreaking) I have found myself thinking about killing differently. I love to go Prairie Dog hunting with someone else or a group of people mostly for the fun factor in shooting with a group of people and with prairie dogs there are always more targets than shooters. At our range we have one very large range board up but usually only one person can shoot at a time. So I would say 90% of the time I go to the range by myself, I generally take 100 to 150 rounds and may shoot them all or may just shoot 50 or so to keep practiced up. When a group of us go out we will take 4 or 5 rifles and shoot up a bunch of ammo, especially the .22's and have little competitions and such, in fact we are on our second target board, 1" super compressed shipping boards 4'x8' and this one is getting shredded. I sometimes just take out a rifle to practice with it because they all shoot differently and I like to stay proficient with all of my firearms but then I usually wont shoot more than 20 or 30 rounds. Coyote hunting I will either go by myself or take one other person because of the level of difficulty and a second set of eyes is a great thing. But that is my "range" shooting.

I'm a hunter also and spend a lot time trying to improve marksmanship.
It typically takes me about 2hrs to shoot 50 rounds and I shoot 3-4 times a week. There is a good deal of bulk 'zombie apocalypse' ammo around the house but I shoot handloads almost exclusively.

I have been going to my range every monday but usually just take my 15-22, due to cost. The other day my dad and grandpa went and my dad brought his hand guns that he got when my other grandfather passed. Those guns hadn't been shot in who knows how long. Kel-tec 9, a little shiney 25, and S&W .38sp and I brought my M&P40. We had a good time and they determined that they would get rid of the 9 and 25 and get an M&P like mine. After I am able to build up 100-200 rds of .223 I take my Sport out, which will probably be the next time I go. Fun times!

When I go to the range for fun shooting, if I take the Sport, I limit myself to 60 to 100 rounds through it. My .22lr AR is for mass quantities of lead.

Pistols I will usually shoot 50 rounds, but I usually take 2, so 100 rounds there. Again, any more than that and we bring out the .22lr.

If I go to sight in a hunting firearm, I only fire as many as I need to confirm zero. I have fired one shot and put the rifle back in the case. Hunting ammo is expensive and I only care about a cold bore shot.

With shotguns, my son and I typically shoot through a case of birds, and he scavenges for the ones that didn't get hit or break on the ground in between cease fires. If I go with my father to shoot sporting clays, I shoot at least 100 rounds.

I'm waiting for my 15-22 to get back from S&W (sent in to get the ejector fixed). So for now I'm shooting the Sport and my Winchester 92. The pace of my range is 15 mins of shooting and 15 mins of cease fire for target changes, so it takes some time and dedication for me to get through more than 200 rounds.

When I was testing out my new 223 reloads it took me 3 hours to go through 98 rounds. haha

I have hunted for over 45 years and most of my rifle shooting is associated with hunting, whether working up a new handload or shooting organized competition. Shooting three rounds to sight in a rifle or to simple dirty the bore of one previously sighted in prior to a hunt is fairly common for me. 60 rounds for load work up or during a match is fairly common, although I have shot 200 during an extended load session. Putting 350 rounds downrange simply blasting targets without going for the X-ring with each and every shot or trying for the utmost accuracy strikes me as a waste of components, although YMMV.

Now for handguns, 100 - 150 rounds per gun and bringing 2-3 guns to the range is common because my handgun usage is directed toward self defense.

Do you send 300+ down range or are you satisfied spending just enough rounds to know your guns are shooting ****?

Just reread your original post. I refuse to shoot the highlighted item under any circumstances unless shooting them was the only way I could save my life.

My target pistols get 50 rounds fired very seriously. My target revolvers get maybe 50 rounds fired very seriously. My SD handguns get maybe a mag or 2 fired both slowfire and a few shots fired from a draw. Hunting rifles get a few shots fired to verify zeros. My target rifles get 50-100 rounds in a dedicated practice session. For working up loads I may fire from one to fifty rounds. If the first shot shows pressue, I regroup and figure it out cause I never load near max. 99% of my shooting is done on my backyard range alone. Hard to concentrate with a plinker around. I do not shoot for the sake of shooting. I shoot to hit my target. I also shoot organized matches, hence the practice sessions.

I like target shooting, its a great stress reliever and I go about once a week when possible I normally shoot 120 rounds out of my 15 but 300-400 from my 15-22 ( cheaper ammo ) at 8 in targets @ 100 yards and sometimes farther, I try and be as accurate as I can.:D

I havent really shot for accuracy Much....

But now that i am reloading.... im sure I will start TESTING things more based on Rested Shots....

Just in case the ZOMBIES are over 100yds Out I am GOOD TO GO

:D

I always shoot for accuracy, if I dont I feel like I wasted a bullet. Everyshot I am practicing my breathing and trigger squeeze, my balance and my sight picture. everything that goes into making a good shot, although when I went from steel cased ammo to strictly brass, I did a few mag dumps, then I felt guilty about wasting ammo.

Like Stavman I shoot out in the open desert. So, I mostly shoot "stuff". I only shoot paper for sight in purposes. I do not use much ammo though with each outing. I usually go with friends and while I take my time and strive for accuracy, I can usually watch them blast away. My usual routine would be some Tannerite and coke cans at 100 yards with my 204 Ruger-only about 10 rounds most times because I don't reload for that. Than I put my target stand at 50 yards and shoot some 1 inch knockdown metal eggs with my 17HMR. Also another couple small Tannerites-that is about 25 rounds total. Then I move the target stands to 25 yards and shoot some more eggs with my 15-22 or bolt action Marlin 22 - 100 rounds usual max. Then I put up some 3 inch metal plates and shoot some pistol - probably 50 rounds. If my friends are not done I might get out the 15-22 again and chase a softball across the desert. Like Stav we also shoot the ocassional melon, some pop bottles filled with water and frozen (they hold up better that way) and a few expired cans of vegatables. We never shoot glass and, we too try to bring back more junk and brass than we took out.

First range session, sighted in at 25 yrds, ran double tap, triple shot drills. 330 rds

Second, drills at 5, 7, 10, 15 yrds. 330 rds

Third, same drills as above plus 50 and 100 yrds accuracy. 540 rds

i shoot enough rounds to lop the head off a bowling pin at the stripe when i can... if you know someone who owns a local bowling alley... old beaten up pins are never in short supply ;)

There are so many different facets and disciplines to our wonderful sport that I rarely give a thought about anyone else's shooting unless it's dangerous behaviour. That I won't tolerate at all. When I go to the range, there are folks that you might hear one shot every 10-15 minutes. Other folks are practicing rapid fire. I enjoy squeezing accuracy out of everything I shoot. I like the friends that I get to meet and chew the fat about the sport.

I don't care for mall ninjas, the btdt people that haven't been there done that and act like they have. I haven't been in the stuff but I was in the Air Force during the end of Vietnam war. Never left Holloman.

It's fun and it's a serious, potentially dangerous undertaking. It is what you make it.

Lock and load.:D

I used to hunt years ago but now target shoot, IPSC and ICORE
This kind of changed Tuesday morning. I made my first kill in a decade

It was a crow at 75 yards. This was with a 422 and a 4" bbl at that

Once or twice a week. Senior pass $50 per year (retired) go middle of work days only to busy other time.Live 2 miles from the range. Know most of the regulars by first name. Shoot my 29-2/629-4 /329-reload cast bullets- shoot 125 round per time. Only take one gun at a time.Shooting .22 S&W more as my right wrist hurts from arthritis.
