Hey Fellers

Been reloading since 1969 and have owned a number of bench-mounted powder measures (but not digital/electronic, at least not yet).

Currently have a Redding and a Hornady. Am pleased with both.

Just invested in a RCBS Competition, Pistol-sized measure to dedicate solely to small charges.

When assembling, I noted that the powder drum can and will slide "left to right" about 1/10th of an inch. My Redding nor Hornady does this. They are both rock solid, absolutely NO "left to right " movement of drum in the frame.

Therefore, I hesitate to use this brand new one until I hear that this movement is normal, or did I miss something when assembling?

Am anxious to hear if this left-right sliding movement of the rotating drum is normal with others owning this same measure.

THANKS in advance and y'all take care, Bo

I have 3 RCBS's and they all move that much. 1 uniflow, 1 competition and a lil dandy. The hole in the drum is never covered up during charging. Use with confidence.

Rcbs play

I have an older RCBS powder dispenser that also shows noticeable play.
I have never seen any noticeable deviations upon checkweighing using free flowing powders like HP 38.

My Redding 10X has a little left and right play, no problem. The dispensing hole is not near the edges of the drum, so it's not an issue.

My 10X is a lot like the RCBS and has been delivering precision charges for me for over 10 years. Only Unique meters less than perfect for me.

Thanks to all of you fellers! I knew you would come through and straighten out my crooked old carcass.

As stated, I have had a number of manually operated powder measures but this is my first RCBS and the "drum's ability to slide left to right" in the frame really spooked me.

Will load it up and throw some small charges right away.

Y'all are the best!!!!!!!!

Take care, Bo

** Just a follow-up note:

I just loaded 100 .357 "Cowboy loads" using 158 grain RNFP and a measly 3.4 grains of Titegroup, my new .357 plinking load.

The new RCBS Competition Pistol Measure is definitely the most accurate manual powder measure I have ever owned. When starting, I set the measure to throw 3.4 grains and re-measured some 20 loads, all being perfectly set on 3.4. I charged 100 .357 cases, then re-measured a charge from the powder measure. It was exactly 3.4 grains and I mean the powder scale lines lined up perfectly.

My other two powder measures (Redding and Hornady) can be off 1/10th and sometimes up to 2/10 grains between charges, but not this new one!!

Y'all take care and stay warm,

Bo
