Does anyone use remanufactured ammo or is it best to stay away from it? If it is indeed loaded by SAAMI specs is it okay to use?

There are several "USED" case ammo makers out there that make good ammo.

It works great for target ammo, where you do not need to buy top of the line high priced ammo for SD use to have a days fun shooting.

For those that do not reload, it is a great savings...........
from brand new cases from the major factories that charge more.

That is, assuming it functions in your gun!

Reman ammo is sometimes not all that good at feeding and extracting/ejecting from some guns. Best to buy a small quantity and try it out first.

There is a huge difference between reloads and factory ammo that is loaded in once fired cases. These are not the same. I reload for myself, but would not shoot other reloads such as what are sometimes available at gun shows. That being said, there are many companies that manufacture ammo using fired cases. They have the ability to test loads and use commercial components that are not available to you and I. they are loaded using the same equipment as the major manufacturers. To me these are as good or better than what is loaded by the big manufacturers.

The only factory "remanufactured" ammo that I am is familiar with is Black Hill's blue box .223 Rem ammo. It's good stuff, never checked to see if they had similar handgun ammo but if they make it I would give it a go if needed.

If the OP means commercial reloads, then I see no problem whatsoever.

I've shot one hole 100 yard groups using Black Hills remans from my 10" .223 Contender.

On the other hand, I won't shoot unknown generic reloads at all.
I learned not to do that the hard way.
There are a lot of people who reload who don't know what the hell they're doing.
It's that, that I learned the hard way.

No damage to me or my guns (knock on wood). Just **** that wasn't worth the aggravation of messing with.

Good Stuff!

I have shot a bunch of these factory reloads using once fired brass and I can say I have no reservations about shooting them.

The Black hills loads their ammo both ways and it is all very good stuff. So I would encourage you to save some money and shhot some!

Been shooting remanufactured ammunition since 1980. Have had nothing but good results. Have used ammo in .38 Special, 9mm, .45ACP and 5.56mm. Never had a problem with the ammo regardless of caliber. Now a days... would use Ga. Arms as it is commonly available in my area. Sincerely. bruce.

I teach at a summer camp that shoots steel pistol - 9mm and 38. We get ammo from Michigan Ammunition (they donate it) and I have seen tens of thousands of rounds fired. Very very few problems and those are always benign (primer is dimpled but the round does not fire). I am not sure if this is the primer or the gun, I have refired a few of these in other guns and they worked. In any case that happens like once in 500 rounds. So for practice or competition where you are not a "pro"I would say that ammo is perfect.

. . . Reman ammo is sometimes not all that good at feeding and extracting/ejecting from some guns. . . .

It feeds and ejects from my S&W revolvers just fine.:)

Please don't buy reloaded ammo sold in plastic bags at local gun shows. Only buy from companies that not only specialize in selling reloaded ammo, can be contacted if you have problems, and have liability coverage if you break your gun or your body.

I have used both Georgia Arms and Freedom Munitions remans and have had zero problems with both. I can say the only problem with Freedom if you are on the east coast is it will take a week in shipping due to distance.

Thanks for all the info. I am going to try HSM 9mm reman 115gr. FMJ.

I don't know where you live, but here in CT, the Walmarts that sell ammo have 9mm Federal Aluminum case 115 gr FMJ ammo for $9.47 per box of 50.

The only reloaded ammo I use now days are the hand loads I make myself. I do have a friend (he does not reload) who swears by re-manufactured .38 Specials and .45 acp from Bitterroot Valley. As far as I know he has never had any problems with their products.

When I first started shooting 40 + years ago I used remanufactured ammo from an outfit called M&D in Farmingdale NY. You would swear that it was loaded with Black Powder it was SO DIRTY. Also got many split cases, many duds, and they did not even use box inserts. The ammo was simply and haphazardly thrown into cheap cardboard boxes. I only used their **** for a year or so and I did not even save the empties for reloading once I started!
