My recently-acquired Model 681 (fixed sights) shoots slightly to the right of the point of aim. This is consistent with different loads and 3 different grips.

Upon close examination, it appears that the barrel is set ever so slightly to the left. Seems this might be the cause. Granted, its a minor issue, but one I'd consider getting fixed.

Question is: has anyone had this done by S&W? If so, what was the cost? As I traded for this, its obviously not a warranty fix.

Or is there another shop you'd recommend?

There's several possible fixes for this: loosen and retorque the barrel, file the rear sight notch to correct, bend the front sight, etc.

A fairly simple (but not necessarily cheap) fix that can solve many such problems is simply to have a cross dovetail machined in the barrel and a dovetail sight installed. Presto: windage adjustment.

You might call the S&W repair center to get a cost estimate on having them correct it.

Best option is S&W.

Since the gun is shooting to the right, and the barrel is turned too far to the left, the barrel may need to be actually re-fitted, not just backed out slightly.

Depending on a number of factors, if the barrel is backed out, it may vibrate loose after the torque is broken by turning it out. For that reason, it may be necessary to totally refit the barrel.
The best judge of that is S&W. They'll do whatever is necessary and do it right.

Since the barrel was mis-installed at the factory, they may well do it for free.

On the SW revos I get that have this problem (and itseems like most of them do) I do an easier fix:

I shave the front sight edge slightly on which ever side it needs to align the groupings. The front sights are too wide for my eye anyway, kills two birds with one stone. You can also shave the edge of the rear sight notch as well. Much easier and cheaper than twisting on the barrel and I am nervous they would split the frame.
