In the past several months, I've been reading about doing things the old way. Farming techniques, country living skills, etc., like our forefathers used 125 years ago or more. I've also been reading about survival techniques. So far, I've read U.S. Army Survival Handbook, SAS Survival Guide, Handy Farm Devices by Rolfe Cobleigh, Primative Living, Self-Sufficiency, and Survival Skills by Thomas J. Elpel, and Storey's Basic Country Skills. All but the Elpel were great. Elpel is a little too hippy/touchy-feely for me, and tells more stories about himself than teaching of skills.

I don't think I'll ever have the chance to use these skills, but it has been interesting reading and I have learned a lot. I would be interested in suggestions of other books along these lines. What have you read that might be helpful?
