Radio reception at my house is poor. I have trouble picking up even nearby stations. Can y'all recommend an indoor, table top radio that is really good at receiving difficult stations?

Regular AM and FM bands are all I need.

I am a radio collector.

If I was you, I would google South Carolina Radio Clubs.
You may have to register but that wouldn't cost any money at most clubs.

This way you can get some great info from the people who are near you.

There are many in South Carolina, you can try this one out or maybe select another. Good Luck

I use my wifi connection with an old iPhone4. Any "old" smart phone would work. And the iPhone is not on any phone contract so it is strictly for this for the most part.

Most radio stations broadcast either with their own player or iHeart Radio. I mostly use it for AM talk so this method means clear static free listening. Kind of like carrying around a small transistor radio of old. Either an ear bud or if I want I can broadcast it to a Bose bluetooth speaker.

For that matter, you can tune into just about any radio station on your computer if you don't need or want to be mobile.

For difficult reception areas I'd suggest using the Net.

You'll likely find any decent size station in your area streaming their broadcast, and of course endless choices around the globe. CD quality around the clock with your PC.

For a tabletop device, I use Grace Radio along with home network. I also use a Bose MiniSoundlink with my computer and smartphones via Bluetooth.

I have an RCA Superadio III that is very good at pulling in weak stations. It has a 2 way speaker system for very good sound quality. it also has terminals for external AM and FM antennas, though the built in ones work just great for me. It's a fairly big radio, at about 10" tall by 12" wide by 3 1/2" thick. I'm just going by eyeball.

I have an older one that I've been using for at least 15 years, and then I bought one for just $45 shipped, on a Christmas deal this year. It was too good of a deal to pass up

Here is one at a decent price:

Have you tried clipping additional wire to your FM antenna and spooling it out?

Better antenna = better reception.

I listen to most of my music on the net. and I have an insane CD collection. I should look and see what's in my home player it might be good to put in my work truck. ;)

Times are a changing.

Try CC Crane Co out of Calif. High quality radios and many fine choices. Mine is excellent for AM and FM - strong recommendation.

I must have an antenna problem....

I haven't listened to the radio in my house for years but got back into it recently. I have the old flexible FM loop antenna on my receiver, spread out across the top of the entertainment center. I can pick up a station good on my car radio, run in the house and turn on my NAD receiver. (Nothing slack about the receiver) and not be able to pick up anything. I could try repositioning my antenna. I'm in an outlying area, maybe a different antenna would help??? How about some old TV rabbit ears? Weren't they for FM signals?

Here you go - Bose clock radio pulls in the stations and has great sound

:mad:I think you are screwed on the am part and rabbit ears. It is where you live.I have had bad reception for 40 years. I can take my electronics one block away in any direction and they work. I listen to my favorite am radio station going to work an when I pull into the drive nothing but static. I can listen on the computer now. Cable is the way I have to go.:mad::(:( If your car radio will pick up ok then this is not your problem.:) I finally broke down & got xm for $90 a year & should have done it long ago. Still no AM. I even went so far as getting a tin foil hat with wires connected to the radio in the past. I finally gave up. It did seem to help the vision in my left eye when it was on. I bought a BOSE radio--same thing. I can get am in the mornings but then it fuzzes out. Also a nice tube radio from the 70s-150w. Still no AM except for a couple of local stations. My gold was to get WBAP 24 hour talk radio-Out of the DALLAS-FT.WORTH area which I can get in my suv. The very best talk radio in the world-Comedy & news 5-9am. Then talk shows. Depends what side of the fence you are on.

You can make or buy better am antennas too. I have messed around for years with shortwave. I do not know where you are in SC. I used to live in Beaufort until last year. With most any shortwave radio and improvised antennas - I took to using steel wire from the dollar store- I pulled in Europe, Japan, China, etc at night without problems. FM was never a problem. I had decent results messing around with a jerry rigged set of three dollar rabbit ears from Big Lots.

when I am home or in my shop/garage the radio is on....am or fm but it is on.....I found that old school vintage late 70's early 80's gear....back when guns were made of steel and were heavy and so were 2 channel am/fm receivers... are hard to beat....craigslist will have some deals for cheap on old equipment because someone is dumping it for some whizz bang surround system in a box...it will need cleaned and a tuner alignment by a qualified tech....but the end result is worth it...for me anyway....I have found that old Sansui's and Realistic have awesome tuners....and none have more of an antenna than about a 30" piece of speaker wire....
