Ha ha who carries a snub nose revolver these days??? Really old timer??? Get with the REAL times there grandpa! Hey Mr. Dragnet the dinosaurs called they want there gun back! ha ha!:mad::mad: Hey! Hold on there kid let me stop you right there..

Okay is the short barrel revolver still practical in this space age polymer wonder bread plastic gun world we live in? Well the answer to that question in my opinion is a most definite YES! So much so that I still keep buying the little guys because they work so well for me. For a around $400 dollars you can find a sweet brand new Smith and Wesson 642! Thats a great deal for a time proven gun. You know a real practical weapon that works! Put some Crimson Trace laser grips on your J frame and whalla you got yourself that new age gun for all you digital age whiz kids out there. What do you guys think? Anybody purchase any of the new line of snub nose S&W revolvers? How do the new S&W snubbies compare to the older ones? Anybody ever had any sticky situations become un-stuck because of the mighty snub? Share your stories of the snub love!:p:p:p

The subby is a serious self protection option in the messed up confused America we live in now thats full of trouble and turmoil. Dont be fooled by the short barrel revolver. With proper training and practice they can be hidden quite easily and comfortably. They can be reloaded fast and put metal on target accurately! Once again with the proper training that can be done. That was the reason the thing was designed in the first place. Law enforcement needed a small little piece of love that packs a punch to get them out of sticky situations fast. People named Smith, Colt, and Charter answered there prayers with there little 38 special revolvers. I forgot count of how many times the poo poo hit the fan and I had the Ole Snubby Snubsworth with me and felt reassured I would make it to the end of the day alive! Many years ago my grandpa gave me a chromed Smith and Wesson Model 36 with a bobbed hammer. My brother didnt want it because he thought it was too ancient and old looking for his taste. By the way my older brother got the first pick of everything!:mad::mad: I was young but I knew that the little antique still had some real practical purpose. When I was legal to do so I carried that little guy everywhere! My very young ex wife at the time used to tell me why do you carry that thing around its so not cool! I remember going on dates with beautiful women and I forget I had the little guy in my jacket and she would hug me and notice I was packing. Girls would say why do you have a gun??? Thats so not cool! Well many girlfriends have gone bye bye and wives are now ex wives and yet Mr. Smith is still around. Why is that friends???:confused::confused:

Some time after that I found myself in a financial crisis and sold all my guns:(:(:( For a very long time that Smith and Wesson Chief's Special was the only lady I had around. Just me and my good trusty friend Smithy Snubsworth. You know what? I did not feel like I was EVER inadequately armed with that little shinny guy. Anybody remember that knock out game all the street punks were playing years back that swept across the nation??? I guess these young brainless thug creeps thought it would be funny to victimize people and knock out old ladies on the street and video tape it for fun and giggles. Lets just say me and my ex wife would of been victims of that game and probably on the 10 o'clock news of the latest robbery assault victims if I wasn't escorted by my trusty friend Mr. Smith. She didn't question my gun carry any more after that. My first apartment was in a crime ridden neighborhood that was going downhill fast. Real life monsters that went bump in the night in my apartment went running in the night out the window when they saw the flash of that little chrome revolver. I remember my first month at this new job in a shady crime ridden area of town and I was working hard trying to scrap up enough loot to pay the rent. My aunt just got robbed a few blocks away from me in the same area a few months earlier. I was on my lunch break and I went to a Burger King a few blocks away from where I worked because that was all I could afford at the time. I used to take my little chromed buddy with me once again in my beater 78 chevy truck. I was eating lunch in my truck in the Burger King parking lot when this thug decided it was a good idea to rob me since his attempts to rob the Burger King were unsuccessful. I guess his busted looking toothless girl friend that was there to pick him up in some hooptie Honda convinced the guy to try and rob me too before they left. He tried forcing his way into my passenger side door but it was locked. That gave me enough time to pull out the shinny. He came around to my drivers side door and was about to open the door. The guy WAS yelling for me to give him my money... Like I said WAS! I noticed human beings tend to become real quiet real fast, if they have any sense in there head, when they are looking down the barrel of Little Miss Nickel Poppins. I have since recovered from my financial woes and bought a new Model 638. I got a new girlfriend that loves to shoot and if looks could kill let me tell you one look from her and the fellas would be dropping all around like flies!;)

Friends, guns, cars, women, and money come and go. You never know what new type of creepiness is around the corner waiting to rear its ugly head at you in this whacky new digital wonder world we live in now. One thing is for sure I plan to keep my old reliable snubby friends around for the ride for a very long time to come. Hey there kid Ill keep grandpas gun thank you very much so get with the program! THANKS GRANDPA FOR SHOWING ME THE WAY! LOVE YOU VERY MUCH!

Most personal weapons engagements in the civilian area will likely be within 25'. If, for some unknown reason, you can't hit what you're shooting at in that distance, even with a snub-nose, you don't need to engae anyone in the first place.

Thats very interesting and good point. I never believed in long range pistol shooting thats what a long gun is for. If you think about it ALL pistols are just mini little tiny short barrel rifles.

Easy to say when all you do is stand still, take your time and shoot at paper.

Thanks friends I thought you guys would be entertained by my post. Theres a LOT of credible people on this forum that keep things like the Smith and Wesson short barrel revolvers alive because we know what REALLY works and what is garbage and gimmicks. Like I always said if it aint broke dont fix it! If I had to pick one gun to keep it would be the snubby. A five shot tiny revolver is all you really need for most everyday carry.

About 5 or so years ago we had a guy tried for attempted murder here....for self defense. He was found not guilty and rightly so. He was attacked by several young adults. He shot one 5 times from a snub nose 38. Guy lived and wasn't all that concerned with the 5 hoes in his chest. Problem was the guy being assaulted was out of ammo and the other guys had surrounded him and didn't care. Luckily this is a busy part of town and cops were not far away.

My gimmicky semi auto with 16 rounds conceals better than a snubby, has actual sights, better grip....an actual grip...faster reloads if that's really needed, shorter reach and lighter trigger. On top of that I've never had a "most every day experience". Every day is different. Some days I'm in the office, some days I'm driving through the ghetto, other days I'm not even at work.

Yes the snub usually only has 5 to 6 bullets in the gun. Its really just a bug out type of gun that is the next step above your fist and teeth. I believe its best you should carry the biggest gun you can with the most ammo possible safely and intelligently. I personally choose comfort the most and like the snub revolver the best for that reason. A more logical and better choice would be something like a S&W 6906 or 3913.

Good choice - I carry a 638 too. I think if I was attacked by several thugs I'd try to hit each one in the face rather than put all my bullets in just one person.

(I've never had to do anything remotely like this, so who know what I'd actually do)

Randy, at first I was going to remind you that I have never met a Marine that chastised a man (or woman) for what they chose to carry!

I am most comfortable with a 1911 at my side, but I do realize that a 1911 is not ALWAYS a practical carry piece. At times my snub is the most practical arm to carry. When my snub accompanies me, it is also accompanied by 2 HKS speedloaders and a 12 round ammo wallet. That should be enough firepower to get me back to my car for either a quick rush to safety or more ammo.

I work in a gun shop part time and this past year have seen a HUGE surge in women buying their first gun.
Here is what I see (weekly) as they come in for help:
-Most come in not knowing more about guns than what Uncle Johns, daughters cop friend said about a "H&K??" duty gun at Suzies baby shower 6 months ago......
-Most want something small enough to carry in their purse but big enough to stop a bear.
-Most have no intention of joining a gun club to regularly drill on proficient use of their gun .
-More than a few ( mostly elderly) have real hand strength issues which leaves them struggling work the slide and controls on a Shield , BG380 or other small semi.
So when asked for what I recommend, I often reach for a S&W J frame of some flavor because:
-It's the simplest handgun to operate under stress.
- Pull the trigger and it goes BANG. Every time. If you EVER DID get a FTF, you just pull the trigger again.
- It allows the shooter to run light loads to learn and heavier loads as they get comfortable /confidence.
- It allows for hundreds of different recoil controlling grip options that can be tailored to the shooters needs and wants.
-It's what I point to on my hip as a statement of my confidence in the above.

One more thing I've observed in most of them: I don't get to reason two above before they make a face and dismiss my advice with" Oh No, I don't want a revolver"!

I just keep telling myself that "they don't know what they don't know" but admittedly, some days I enjoy the job better than others.

Yep revolvers should most often be a woman's first choice for a first gun especially.

I carry an LCR 357 and I don't worry about being under armed. I believe my revolver has a better reliability than any semi autos I have had. To funny my cheapest $160 semi auto Phoenix never failed to fire but my more expensive pistols couldn't lay claim to that.
For safety and reliability for protecting my life I will go with a revolver.

Here's a picture of my (8 1/2 month pregnant) wife shooting targets with my 360. After spending all afternoon at a baby shower we had to go do something fun.

I've owned and (kind of carried) a Glock 19, and several larger revolvers but at the end of the day the little j frame wins out for me. After getting past the machismo of stainless steel, 4 inch, 6 or 7 shot revolvers and high capacity semi auto's I've realized a gun is useless if it's in the car when I need it.

After 100 rounds of 110 grain hollow point 357s without a hitch I'm confident in switching to that for my carry instead of the 38 + p's I was carrying.

Imagine some snot nosed punk rich kid just pulled up to the shooting range in his new Nissan 370z that his dad bought him. The only thing he knows about firearms is Call of Duty Xbox and what youtube tells him. He just spent all his money on a brand new FN Five-Seven and never shot a weapon before. Than you pull out your tiny little archaic revolver on the shooting range and the kids start laughing and taunting you. The kid says revolvers are dumb and for old geezers. That was the kind of dialogue and entertainment I was going for in the opening title and thread.

I can't shoot a semi auto pistol (The way it recoils forward because of the slide causes my tendonitis to act up a can't grip anything for 3 days.) but I can shoot a revolver without too much trouble (I can still get sore but at least I can shoot.) it just comes back at me and not backward and forward.

For some a revolver is the only choice.

Very nice Smith! I prefer the more shiny versions of that type of revolver. Trust me sometimes that unmistakable bling of a revolver is all it takes to send the bad guys packin sand! I had a scum bag landlord come into my apartment in the ghetto once to complain about all his cheap junky old furnishings falling apart. He had this great idea that he would do this by bullying me around by brandishing some double stack 9mm Glock. No joke!! The guy was a fruit cake! Than he saw my chrome Model 36 revolver poking out of my pocket and he thought twice about doing that again. Who knows what would of happened if he didnt see my revolver.
