Does S&W generally run another rebate during Christmas or the New Year? Lusting after a 3.6 compact, 15 round grip model. Also what's the correct way to refer to the 3.6" vs the new sub-compact?

There's good deals online without a rebate. I bought my 4" compact from Bud's online for $390 last year

Don't buy a 2.0 just for the 15 round magazines. The 15 round mags fit in the 1.0 version, you just need a spacer to fill the gap between the new mag and the old grip. Then you have 15 rounds and the grip is exactly the same length as a Shield with the 8 round magazine. People seem to think the Shield is easier to concealed carry but I prefer the compact. I use the compact 1.0 with the 15 round magazines and a spacer ($12) to fill the gap. Beats the dickens out of spending another $400 or so for a 2.0.

I'll give my opinion on this when I get the holster I ordered for my compact. I've been carrying a Shield and just bought a 2.0 compact 4 inch barrel version.

Everybody says the grip length is the biggest factor in ease of concealment and as you mentioned those two have the same length grip.

The only thing I see that could be a problem is the compact being significantly heavier than the Shield. That could enter into it as a comfort issue. I weighed both with fully loaded mags and the Shield came in at 24.7 ounces (8+1), and the compact was 33.8 ounces (15+1). That's a pretty big difference.

As to pricing I have a semi-local gun shop that had the 2.0 compact for $429 when I bought it last Saturday. I saw one place online that had it for slightly less but the local guy only charges $5 for the transfer paperwork and if I buy online I have to pay $30, so it was easier and cheaper for me to buy local.

Great info, Thanks. I have a glock 19 that I occasionally carry, but that's in winter with sweaters etc. I just like the 3.6 barrel with a full grip.
