Rebluing a mdl 36

Maybe I'm talkin' out of school here but the last I checked a quality reblue was fairly expensive. I'm refering to a quality hot blue job. Unless your 36 is very unsightly (rust, pits and/or lots of bare metal), most of the collector value will be destroyed by having this done. The Model 36 is fairly common. If it were I, I'd be looking around for a similiar P&R model. Subtract what you'd pay for a quality blue job and your into another for not that much money. Just a thought.

If the Finish wear bothers you and you plan on keeping and shooting the gun
go ahead and make it pretty.

It's your gun, do what you want with it.

Personally, I don't worry about the "collectability" of modern guns, even if that particular model is out of print. Antiques are another matter, but 3-screw model 36's, even non-lockers, are as common as belly buttons.

And hey, once The One is sworn in next January, it'll be confiscated anyway.

Sounds like a good general knock-around gun. If the finish bothers you too much, you could always use it to trade into a better one, but then you might not want to use it as much. It's just hard to justify spending money having one re-blued, you'd most likely be into it far more than you could get back out of it.

A quality reblue with shipping, insurance, taxes, etc is about $250. I have reblued several guns with the "Blue Wonder" 3 part, hot blue kit and I highly recommend it. Its not going to look as good as a professional job, but its always made a big improvement to the 7 or 8 guns I have done. Guns that rated 80-85% where improved to 92-97%, and the kit only cost about 18 bucks and it will treat several handguns and long guns. A torch or a couple of hair dryers are used to heat the gun after the cleaner is applied, then several coats of bluing, and finally the developer fluid is used. It doesnt take much time, is very easy, and actually... fun! I bought the kit at Academy Sports.
