With the addition of my Smith 57, which was really holster worn but shoots very well as wasn't fired much, I am thinking about having it reblued. But how is Smith's rebluing that it offers now compared to what they used to look like. Will I gun reblued now look like the duller finish of the guns that they put out now?

Before: Bought it about a year ago. Barrel didn't match the rest of the gun.. Looked like GM metallic paint.

After a trip to S&W. I am pleased with the result, only now it's too pretty to shoot. The difference in the side plate cover is my photography not the bluing job.

Are you through shooting and packing it? Consider leaving that rebluing decision up to the LaPell musuem curator.
S&W might be the only place I would count on to not over polish and generally ruin the original look.
I touched up my brother's holster shiney mod 57 with Blue Wonder. It looked so good he backed out of the deal that was to make it mine.

Dave, I think you'll find the factory work quite nice and I would send it there before I would send it ANYWHERE else........if you like the 'original' finish, just tell them to try and replicate it, not to try and "change or alter" such as matte versus shiny.....seen lots of them they did and not seen a BAD one yet...........
