Recommendations for new 357 6" S/W

Can't wait to get out and shoot next week. My brother and I set up a little range on my farm couple years ago. Love being able to go out and shoot when I want. Right now we're buying factory ammo. Used to reload though. Still have the reloading stuff, just not time to do it right.

Not sure if you would want a .38 only gun or not. (I know you stated .357) A super range gun in .38, is a model 14. They are 6" tack drivers. Look mighty nice too. Bob

For shooting .357 you can't do much better than a 686. The 6" version makes a dandy range gun.

Hi
Could you tell me the origin of yout wooden grip, Alatamont ?
Thank you.

If one ever plans to shoot any combat revolver match's one needs to consider speed loader choices. The 6 shot 686 can be loaded with Safariland Comp III's or Jet Loaders. With a 7 shooter you are pretty much stuck with slower HKS speed loaders, unless you moon clip it. Just something to consider.

My local dealer just got a new 586-8 in stock with 6 inch barrel. It is a very good looking handgun. In my area new GP100's are much more common than new S&W 586/686 revolvers.

Well, I use either the Silhouette or the Competitor personally, but honestly the Competitor I like more, simply because the weights are adjustable!! The Silhouette is weighted, and the adjustable sights are nice, but got to say I REALLY like my adjustable weight S&W models...
But, my opinion may be a bit biased on that fact!
The .357 Competitor is at the bottom, Silhouette is top left:

Here are a few more weighted Smiths I have, Top the 7.5" Big Rock and bottom Lew Horton Hunter.

I would suggest a nice 27-2 to 27-5 myself for a 6" 357. They really tame the recoil without being as muzzle heavy as an L frame with the full lug barrel. The -2 and earlier have P&R but are generally more expensive for a high condition gun than the later revisions. And even the -5 guns have forged triggers and hammers; no MIM.

Altamont. They are the grips that ship with the 686 Deluxe. I don't think they are a regular catalog item as they don't appear on Altamont's Web site. I got these directly from S&W.
