Recommended blueing product for barrel end

I find Birchwood Casey Perma-blue and Brownell's Oxpho paste blue to be about the best of the bunch and works better when the metal to be blued is heated with a heat gun prior to bluing.

That said, no cold bluing has proven to be truly permanent (for me) and wears off much faster than hot blue. Just means repeated applications every so often.

Thanks all. Ya it's just the barrel end plus a small area with some white inside the barrel end area. Not much bluing needed. ...

Leave the muzzle end polished like they used to on rust blued bbl's.
Looks classy and old school.

Take a drill and wrap some grit cloth or scotchbrite around a split spindle (dowel) or even an old bore brush. Then spin it inside the bore from the muzzle to evenly polish the bore up as well. No need to go any deeper in from the muzzle than than a couple inches..

That'll remove any uneven discoloration inside there from the chop job, leave the bore looking brite and new at least at first glance at the muzzle.
You won't be able to see any difference in the bore polish looking from either end if you go in a couple inches.
Plus with some shooting and cleaning, that area will blend right back in with the rest of the bore's polish and shine.

No need for any cold blue use at all and only takes a couple minutes to do.
That polished muzzle edge will also take on a 'patina' with use and match the rest of the gun.

I'm not a big fan of cold blue products..
