Record heat wave

They were talking about this on the news and noted that the highest temperature ever recorded in Dallas is 113. So ya beat our record high temp. Wow.

93 here already, at least the wind isn't blowing yet. The have extended the excessive heat warning for us until July 4th. Forecast calls for over 100 degrees every day until the 6th

We're normally very dry and near 100 or over this time of year. This week, though, has been exceptional. It's been raining every day causing some flash flooding issues.
Temps in the 80s. Yesterday's high was 78. It's 71 right now. The long range forecast shows that we will be in the low to mid 80s all week and won't hit the 90s again until July 11. Of course we all know how "accurate" long range forecasts are.

94 here in Central NJ as I write this, the Summer of 1966 we had a couple of 100 degree days-I recall one 104 degree day. In the Summer of 1896 there was a killer heat wave in NYC, June 28 the Battle of Monmouth was fought in 90 degree heat.

That is one nice thing about the wet-side.
Sun isn't down yet here - but even though it is getting close it is still 105 in the shade on my front porch. It might drop to 90 an hour after sunset, but it won't get below 70 overnight.

111 here right now...I can remember when I was a kid in the Valley back in '60-'61. We were playing on a friends patio, they had a thermometer that read 106, I remember seeing that while we ran out to run through the sprinklers, coming back in when the kid's mom yelled out "Who wants a Popscicle?"
I went out in the shop at 10:00 last night to check on the slats, it was still 85 degrees in the there...I'm going to give it a couple of days between final coats, its still blushing.

It appears from their profile info that Kinman and BC38 are in the same general area. I see a couple of others that are closer to me, such as Selah. The weather widget on my computer showed 108 at one point, and I think that was after the peak temperature time. I had no looked at it for a while, so I might have missed a higher reading.

It was near that and breezy Sunday. The breeze felt as if someone opened a furnace door.

Down here the breeze dropped the temp down quickly. felt wonderful. I have to admit, I went outside without a shirt and held my arms out to my sides and just let it blow over me. To be completely honest, I also spun around slowly like Wonder Woman changing outfits. I stand by my actions.

Yup we hit 109 or 110 today - depending on what source you check.

I went out to the shop and cut 6" off the end of four 1"x4" boards, and spray painted the ends and edges black.

My t-shirt was soaked clear through. Almost as if you had poured a half gallon of water on me. I hate tho think what it would be like to have to actually WORK out in this heat. I'm glad we have AC in our office, and at my house.

Those are impressive temperature swings. Is it because of the sea? When we hit 110°F during the day it rarely drops below 85°F at night.

Down in Phoenix helping my step=dad after mom died last week.

How sad is it that it was hotter in Seattle than it was in Phoenix over the weekend?

Yes it is. On the west side of Oregon and Washington at least. The north south Cascade range creates a block to the marine onshore flow. Hence why the eastern parts are still hot. It's also why the east is drier than the west. Moist air hits the mountains, rises and falls as rain on the west side and the east side is in what they call a rain shadow.

The day before yesterday, we peaked out at 110 deg. Cooled down yesterday to "only" 90. As of this morning it's 60 outside. Even with all the windows open round the clock, the house is still at 68 deg. That 110 deg event stored a lot of heat in the structure.

I never thought I wanted air conditioning in the PNW. We generally get a few 90 deg days a year, whine about it, and it would cool off at night. Then we'd forget all about it until the next year. But I gotta say, a couple days of 100+ recently makes me re-think the wisdom of forgoing air conditioning. Not a simple task in this house. I have hydronic heat and no forced air ductwork. Might have to install one of those "mini-split" thingamajiggers.
