The wife and I bought a home adjacent to ours for the land, but the house sitting on the land is in worse shape than we wish to deal with and power lines nearby prohibit it from being sold and moved for remodeling elsewhere, so we are preparing it for demo.

There is no electricity so I have no idea on what electronic items work and what don't, but they are all so old or in such rough shape I don't believe any are worth selling as functional --- so they are headed to the dump as scrap or somewhere for recycling.

There's a washer and dryer, 2 or 3 ton 10 Seer York compressor outside and coil inside along with an electric furnace, 3 window A/C units, 2 huge TV's (the widescreens from before "flatscreens" were popular), 2 refrigerators, gas stove and gas water heater. Can any of this be recycled for cash, or should it all just go straight to the dump?

The big TV's can be demolished with the house easy enough, but some of the metal stuff I'd like to remove to make demo a little easier. Any thoughts, experience or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks for any info you guys can share.

Our SC county recycle center takes all e-waste and appliances.

In NY, the stores that sold AC's would take old AC's and give a voucher for the units turned in, that could be sent to the power co. for a credit.

Around here I get rid of old junk like that by putting an ad on craigslist and give it away. Scrappers who sell for the metal value will come and generally take everything that is primarily steel/iron.
The CRT televisions are a problem. I had to pay 10 bucks to an appliance recycler to take my VW sized Sony that gave up the ghost after 20+ years. I kinda miss that TV, it kept the bedroom nice and warm.

Try to give away or sell the AC units.. Most recycling place don't want t deal with the freon and you might have to have somebody suck it out beofre you can get rid of them in a landfill or salvage yard.

I'm in the construction business and if you put up a sign that says everything is "free" people might take so much there is nothing left to demo. People love to take doors, windows, appliances, hw heaters, and A/C units. It's expensive to have things demolished and hauled off and its even expensive to demo it yourself and pay the dump fees.

We hope to find a local carpenter/builder to take the windows, doors, bathroom pieces, electrical conduits, etc., and any spare wood they can un-nail. A lot of these items are only 10 years old or so, and should fetch a little coin.

You're sure right about the cost of demo, we knew going into it that it aint cheap!

You might be surprised just what some people will pay. A tag sale with "OBO" or Make Offer can sometimes result in free removal and a few dollars as well. The heavy metal stuff scrappers will want. The old TV's are a problem unless you have an electronics waste recycle in your area.

I HATE the thank icon on here. I always wind up with my finger on it as I scroll my phone and "thank" more posts that I dont mean too. Annoying that it cant be undone if you havent left the thread

That said Im sure you can locate a recycler to load up and remove them.

That AC unit might have some expensive3 freon that can be reuse or sold. My County has scattered "recycling" and "waste transfer" stations all over to take pressure off the main dump. Folks bring old appliances there all the time and a company comes in and bleeds off the freon from those appliances.
Personally, I would sell them. My flea markets has many sellers of used/reconditioned appliances. Worse comes to worse, call the recycler who will give you scrap value or donate to a cause that can use them and take a write-off.

Around here if you put it out at the curb with a FREE sign on it, it will sit forever. If you put a FOR SALE sign on it, it will be stolen by morning.

Put up a sign in the front yard that says "NO GUNS HERE". Around here, everything would be stolen by next weekend.

How much land will this add to your ranch and how much do you have now?

Don't take the ac or refrigerators to the dump in Texas until they have been evacuated or you can be fined big time. Scrap metal places will not take them unless you have a certificate from an AC shop that they are empty.

Goodwill around here won't take them any more either. Best bet is to let the pro-scavengers/scrappers come get them.
