I normally shoot indoor at 30 yds and seldom at the outdoor range which is a 25 mile drive one way and would like to know if it would be practical to get a Red Dot (Primary Arms M3) or the Barska scope which seems to be a common choice among the forum members.

As a firearms enthusiast (euphemism for gun nut) my advice is to first acquire the Primary Arms M3 clone. At the distance you're shooting, it will work just fine.

Then acquire a .22lr scope.

Use quick disconnect mounts on both. That way it's easy to switch out one for the other. You'll have to adjust zero when you make the swap, but that's no big deal since .22lr ammo is cheap.

Red Dot = Quick acquisition, good for fast pace fire.

Telescopic scope = Easy to see, great for slow pace accurate fire.

At 30 yards, a magnified optic is difficult to use unless you are precision shooting at paper from a support position. If you are shooting off hand, I would go with a 1x red dot. I use a Primary Arms MicroDot.

Both???? :) i have a tasco 3-9x32 on my 1522 set on 3 i can shoot at 10 yards.just fine.. im going to put the 45* mount on it also and have a small red dot or holographic sight off to the side. That was i can use both.
I use mine for small game and critter control hence the need for a scope.. a red dot would work but i want to make sure im as accurate as can be for quick and humane dispatch......

I started out with a green dot/red laser combo - but at 50 yds couldn't get any kind of accurate shots with it... I ended up getting a 3-12x42 scope which now allows me to see what I'm shooting at 50 & 100 yds without a spotter scope (I didn't like using that spotter scope either).
Got this based off the reviews: VISM Micro Greendot Laser Sight w/ Integrated Red Laser VDGRLB FREE S&H VDGRLB. VISM Laser Sights.
Used twice, I'll probably list it for sale @ $45 shipped...

For inside 50 yds, I'm considering a green laser which is reportedly visible in direct daylight... we'll see!

I love my reflex Site.... I also have a CHEAP BSA red dot....

Both, inside 50yds, I am DEAD on whatever I shoot at.... Outside 50yds.... a Scope is a Must for small Items or game....

Now ta hit a Person Size Target:cool: Inside 100yds I Think ill tag It...LOL

Reflex is FASTER Target Acquisition.....In my Opinion.... Ya have ta LOOK into a Red Dot Scope style and does take a second or so more...

My $.02

I have 2 M&P15-22's. One of them has a primary arms 2MOA 4-RECTICLE red-dot set up with my iron sights for co-witness and the other has the Nikon P-22 scope. Both were worth every penny. The optics on the Nikon is much superior then that of Barska or BSA.

What's the difference between a Reflect sight and a Red Dot sight?

This is a REFLEX or HALO style site.... Much easier to acquier the Target IMO

This is a Standard Red Dot Scope... Possibly a little more accurate than a Reflex... But Slower Acquisition IMO

Alot is preference... you can get Decent inexpensize of both... like i did, and find your PREFERED optic.. like I did.

My next Purchase will be a Higher Quality Reflex site like EoTech Reflex Site....

Scopes are Nice to get UP CLOSE and personal... But Most of my PLAY is Done inside of 50yds So reflex is MY 1st Choice

Hope This helps
