I was at my local Walmart and they had a TRS25 with the riser for $104.00
If you decide on a scope, be sure it has an adjustable objective. Most AO scopes will adjust for parallax from 15 yards out to infinity. A typical centerfire scope is usually set by the factory to be parallax free at 100 yards. A typical rimfire scope without AO is usually set at 50 yards, so if you want to be able to shoot accurately at all ranges look for a scope with AO. Some of them are very reasonably priced. JMHO
Not to hi-jack your thread, but would this work on my 15-22 with or without the riser? I have a Nikon P-223 3X32 on it right now.

I think the question is not which one to get but which one to get first because you will want both. You are going to start on paper so go for the RED dot first. When you feel comfortable you will end up at a 100 yard outdoor range and with old eyes like the rest of us here you will want to be able to see the target and for that you will need a scope.
Sound about right?
Well, I went to the range today for the first time (ever). It was indoors and only went to about 22 yards. I used a bore laser to sight in the scope last night.
This is my first 4 mags at 22 yards with the scope. This is standing with no support. ( 4 corner targets are mine. The center target and 3 low shots were my buddy.)
This is what my wife is afraid of. I have a tendency to go overboard when I get into something. I call it being thorough and prepared. All she sees is $$$$.

About a year ago, "we" decided we needed a home defense weapon. So, I bought an SR9 and I caught the disease and we (I) now own 6 pistols and a M&P 15-22. It's a sickness I tell ya! But one that I hope I don't get cured of. LOL
